I know this is probably difficult to estimate, but does anyone have a rough guess on when the iphone 5 might be released?

History would indicate you can be somewhat confident about release dates:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_iOS_devices#iPhone

iPhone 1: Friday June 29, 2007 (5th/last Friday in June)
iPhone 2: Friday July 11, 2008 (2nd Friday in July)
iPhone 3: Friday June 19, 2009 (3rd Friday in June)
iPhone 4: Thursday June 24, 2010 (4th/last Thursday in June)

Using those dates as an indication, perhaps sometime between June 16 - July 8, 2011.

I'll take a stab at Thursday, June 23, 2011.

Is that the US release dates?

Remember i4 was pushed back about 3/4 weeks for anyone other than like US/Canada/Main Europe

Yeah good point. But I guess once a new iPhone is announced in the US, people here will hang on a few weeks for it to arrive.

I'm in the process of trying to get out of my Three contract. Called them up commenting on my poor reception. They recommended I:
- Reset All Settings
- Reset Network Settings
- Get a new SIM card

Have done each of these and so far am still not happy. Will continue dialogue and see where that gets me. Don't plan on actually asking for contract cancellation, I'll wait for them to offer that as an option. "Yes please!"

Interesting about people here not getting service!

I moved house about 16 months ago when i first got my 3GS with Optus and the coverage i have at home is terrible ( Hoppers Crossing ) i sit on the couch etc and only get 1 bar of signal service and constant dropouts while my misses who is with Telstra gets FULL service!! Anyway Telstra rang me up on Thursday ( As the Internet and house phone is with them )arvo offering me a brand new Iphone 4 on a $59 plan with $400 of free calls and SMS and a monthly internet cap of 3 Gig plus a $200 welcome bonus in credit. I told them straight away i would love to switch as Optus is woefull service wise but i am under contract untill July next year and Optus want $820 to pay out the contract if i cancel before it is up. Optus then admitted to me my house is in a blackspot for service and it wont get better and then i queried why i should pay them for a mobile service they are not providing??? Still no help with Optus as to me cancelling the contract for free and i went to the Communications Ombudsman website and sent them an Email informing them of everything and they said they would look into it.

Fast forward to yesterday and Customer Service at Optus ring me telling me they have recieved my complaint and the TIO is stepping in and Optus then WAIVED the whole cancellation fee and ripped up the contract as it is reasonable that i shouldnt have to pay a cancellation fee for a service Optus cannot supply me with.

I then got straight on the phone to Telstra and i have a brand new Iphone 4 getting delivered on the 23 of this month and my number ported over the day i activate the new phone all with the above plan i mentioned earlier!! I also get to keep my 3GS and Optus will unlock it providing i pay the handset fees till July in my final bill which is around $10 month untill July. So i have to pay my last bill which is around $75 ATM and the $70 handset payments remaining and i get the 3GS as a spare phone and it is GOODBYE Optus as the service is CRAP.

Recommend the TIO to anyone wanting to settle a complaint and the process is a piece of piss!! :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Yeah. Sometimes I'll get 3G but most of the time it's Edge. Really annoying.

One thing i've done with other phones is to set it to only use a 3G connection for awhile which forces the phone to only look for this. Then after a bit change it back to 3G and 2G and it seems to stay more with 3G then 2G.

That's from using Blackberry's though, not sure if it would work the same on the iPhone but worth a try.

Anyone having reception issues, try the three things above. I'm with Three Mobile, I work in a basement and until 2-3 months ago, could receive calls at work. I don't know exactly what happened and when with regards to Three roaming to Telstra and then Three merging with Voda, but one of the three things I did has now given me roaming reception (and Edge) at work. So I've had some success, not convinced my 3G issues are completely resolved, but it's a step in the right direction.

iOS 4.2 out. If you have an iPhone 4, register for Find my iPhone so you can remote wipe your phone if you lose it. It was previously a feature of the paid MobileMe service.

I have had my new Iphone 4 for just over a week now and i love it but there is one issue bugging me!! Downloading Apps over Wifi on my 3gs was quick as anything and took less than 1 minute even for a big App but on the Iphone 4 it takes an eternity!! I mean close to 10 minutes for 1 App that is not even that big...

I have the same Wifi connection i have allways had and the 3gs is still just as quick but the Iphone 4 is so slow for some reason and i dont know why!!

Anyone else experienced this??? :confused::confused:

jailbreak still works for 4.2, albeit in a tethered format

is there any reason not to jailbreak it? ive heard warranty becomes void but that seems easily fixed by resetting it and ive also heard it makes the phone work really slow. is that true and are there any other reasons why i shouldnt jailbreak my iphone 4? and also how do i know if its a 4.2 or not, ive checked all over the box and everythign but cant find it :S (i bought the phone a month ago)

I know bugger-all about JB, I get the impression I'm crazy not to have done it, but am not all that techno-savvy and have got a feeling I'd make a meal of it.

Checking what version you have though is easy enough: Settings > General > About > Version.

JB used to make an iPhone slower back in the 3G days. But the 3GS and 4 have some much more RAM, it hardly makes a dent.

JB is also fool proof. Can't screw it up. All you do is download a program, connect iPhone, and follow the step by step instructions (some even do it for you, and all you have to do it click a button). Everything is 100% reversible.

Anyone elses been playing up since 4.2? Songs have randomly started halfway in when I choose to play them, sometimes only with about 4 seconds left. It usually only seems to happen after I've been listening to an Audio Book, really annoying.

Note: It was jailbroken, but since upgrading to 4.2 I haven't jailbroken it yet. So that can't be the problem.

I followed the link provided earlier in this thread to jailbreak my iphone 4. however the website (jailbreakme.modmyi.com) which i went on through safari on my iphone4 says "version too new. you need to downgrade to 4.0.1/3.2.1 or earlier" however when i check on my settings what version my iphone is it says 4.1. is there another way i can jailbreak it and is it worth doing?
