I got it fixed! I just took it into the 3 store and they took and restored it and viola. But this 3 person working thought that this guys phone was jailbroken because it had a background screen. But it was OS.4:D. I had to LOL at that
3 has gone downhill in terms of customer service in the past few years. I had to get my iphone replaced but when it came back it didn't have the protective screen cover on it that my old one did, and when I asked about it he had to go check with his manager and then came back with one and said there you go.

I asked whether he could put it on for me as I hadn't done the last one and I wasn't sure how to do it properly. ::sigh:: ok sir, I'll check whether someone can do it, I don't know how either. He comes back and it's all done....except for two things I noticed after I had left, the phone wasn't charged and my contacts hadn't been imported, both things they did when I initially bought the phone.

When I first took it back a few months ago, it came back from the servicing and the guy said he would just check it to make sure and lo and behold, it still didn't work. They had had it for half the day at the store before I went to collect it and it never occured to them to check it before telling me it was ready to collect.

The level of service has gone from helpful after sales service to NEXT!

So is anyone considering ditching the other networks in favour of Telstra?

I know they have traditionally been known as expensive and not very helpful but I'm fairly keen to make the swap considering the much noted antenna issues with the new phone. I still have a few months on my contact but will be more than happy to make the switch if Telstra release some conpetitive plans.

Although considering the huge wave of people considering the switch over at Whirlpool Optus are probably going to offer up some nice incentives to renew a 2 year contract.

Yeah i'm ditching Three for Telstra, sick of their coverage and their customer service.

Used to be on Optus, only changes from them since everyone I knew was on 3 but will most likely jump to Telstra for the iPhone 4 unless Optus have some amazing deal.

Definitely considering Telecon and with Optus currently. Am on $79 plan.

I'm not a heavy user of calls (doubt I'd use anywhere near 700mb in 3G), so the higher rates might not be a big issue so long as I effectively get near enough to all I can eat data and calls, plus insurance, for under $100 per month.

Certainly feel dirty for considering the rip off merchants, but if they come to the party in a Sol-less environment, then I'm happy to listen.

What is Vodafone like in terms of coverage and customer service? I'm considering moving over to them once my contract with 3 finishes.

I got a text message from 3 few weeks ago saying that my bill was $1472 to call them or else my service would be cancelled. Apparently I had downloaded over 2000mb in 2 days.

If this ever happens to you keep complaining and get them to credit you the whole amount, don't accept $100/$200/50% credit or even consider going on payment plans. In the end they credited the whole amount which was a big relief.

Will be buying an iphone 4. I've never even contemplated buying an iphone before and have never really looked into it. What are the chances of getting an iphone 4 pretty much as soon as it's released? I've been assuming they'll be sold out fairly quickly and i'll have to wait till later in the year to get one. Anyone able to give me some info?

^^^

Suggest you just go to your local Apple store or Optus/Telstra/Vodaphone store on Friday and just line up in the morning. Wouldn't surprise me if stores has low amounts of stock, we're already seen shortages in the US; especially if you want a certain model (16gb/32gb).

Don't think Apple Store online will have any pre-orders unfortunately unless they're really holding out till last minute. I'd say go to a bigger store eg T-Life on Bourke St, i'd guess they'd have more stock than another smaller Telstra store.

Yeah this pretty much sums me up also.

I would rather avoid Telstra and their high charges but considering their network is so far ahead of the others and will continue that way for at least the next two years, I need to make the switch. Especially if they offer up some conpetitive plans. Sick of going to the football and my data not working at all. How the hell do I check how little Dreamteam points Tippett has?

Three was fine until just recently when they stopped using the Telstra network. Will definently be swapping when my contract is up, spend more time out of service nowadays.

3 and Vodafone are now virtually one and the same, are they not?

yeah good point. 3/Telstra > 3/Voda.

Given my usage personally, nothing much changes in that I'd get all I can eat data and calls for sub $100 inclusive of insurance.

As per their email it's $0 upfront on the $59 plan for a 16Gb. I'd be assuming/guessing maybe a $0 upfront for a 32Gb on the $79 plan.

If Telstra can go close to matching that, then I'm going over to the dark side...

Opps...both already released!

Optus

Telstra

As much as i'd love 1gb in data, Optus' coverage just isn't anywhere near the standard of Telstra.

Optus's plan > Telstra. I get good coverage where I live so I'll be sticking with them. Apparently, and this is unconfirmed, you get the first 2 months free for a 24-month contract if you buy it online.

I just checked my Optus bill and in the month where I moved house and was down internet, I used a whopping 202Mb of data! :o

I rarely venture out of inner-Melbourne, so I may just stick with Optus and hope their 900mhz network works well with the iPhone4.

You only get 200mb of data on the $49 cap at Telstra? What a rip! No amount of coverage is worth it.

$59 cap on optus sounds top notch for the 16gb iphone 4 which is what i'm after, hopefully 3/voda can match that

Agreed, also no handset repayments on a 24 month plan for the 16GB whilst on the $59 cap. Looks like the best plan I have found so far.

Optus plans are good, very good in fact but i'm too worried about how shitty their coverage really is.

Vodaphone / 3 released theirs:

Still think i'll go with Telstra, best network for the iPhone 4 and all is good especially since I don't need so much data considering they've got heaps of WiFi hotspots around.

Whilst I mainly stick at home in inner city Melbourne, I've been all round the countryside to some pretty remote places over the past 5 years and have never had any issue connecting via phone. The only time I didn't have 3G was in Tassie, but they're fixing that.

In terms of call dropouts, I've never experienced it, but will occasionally get a 'call your voice mail' SMS when I seemingly had full coverage, but it's not that often. The 3G itself works ok, but it has some sub-standard latency. Hopefully they address some of these issues and the 900mhz support on the iBlower helps.

Optus' plans are good, really good in fact. However I think I am going to venture over to the dark side and sign a contract with Telstra. If you have never had any problems with Optus with their calls or data then the answer is very simple. Stay with the best deal. There are 2 main reasons why I am making the switch.

- Driving along trying to use Google Maps to find out at least what street you are on and Optus decides 'no 3G for you'. The maps take about 30mins to load and you find yourself having to pull over and use the street directory.

- At the football my phone NEVER works! It gets so clogged up with more than 50 people around that it becomes useless.

You may or may not agree but they are my settling points for changing carriers. It's all well and good to have 2GB of data but if it decideds to not work when you want it, then it becomes useless.
