Would be interested to hear what you learned gentlemen thought in regards to iphone 3gs vs iphone 4?

My sisiter is getting her first iphone in the next week or so, and I have told her that she'd be better off getting the 3GS, due to some of the problems of ip4.

Have I just steered her up the wrong path?

Originally I told her to hold off till the next ip4 model came out, cos I thought I remembered someone on this forum saying that this may've been out early-to-mid Jan, but the Optus salesman told her no such model was in the pipeline, so obviously I got that wrong.

Definitely go with the iPhone 4. I've had mine since launch and have had no problems with it at all.

You can permanently set it to portrait view if you want. Double tap home, swipe left to the music section, its the icon on the left.

Doesn't help when you want to lock to landscape view. I have a backgammon game that can be played in either orientation. I asked the developer to add an option to lock the orientation (this was before the portrait lock was introduced) and he did. So I play it in bed with the screen sideways (which would usually revert to portrait mode).

have also had my iPhone 4 since launch day, haven't had any issues at all

the wife has a 3GS, it's horribly slow in comparison with the 4, and the screen is much crappier

Every now and again I'll get a msg saying I have a new voice mail, but my phone never rang. It seems calls sometimes are just going straight to voicemail.

Whenever this happens I've had full reception so I'm not sure what's going on - Has anyone else had this problem? I'm with Telstra.

I'm with Telstra also. I have this issue when somebody calls me whilst I'm on another call. There doesn't seem to be any background beeping to inform me there's another call and give me the option to put the current call on hold like the 3G does... instead, i get the voicemail message out of the blue while on the original call.

Has anyone messed around with sending flash SMS (class 0) messages? Is it even possible?

The amount of fun that could be had with those is probably immeasurable.

hey guys ive got an iphone 4 with a jailbreak all working fine...just wondering if i can update my itunes from 10.1 without losing the jailbreak? i cant remember what im not allowed to upgrade ...thanks in advance

With the new Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 released in the US, would I be right in saying that it wouldn't work in Australia?

I think I read that the iPhone 5 would be both GSM/CDMA so you wouldn't then have such an issue.

me being me has finally done the inevitable and dropped and smashed my iphone screen (even though it had the good for nothing screen protector on). i didnt have insurance so apparently its going to cost me almost 400 bucks to get it fixed through apple. however a friend told me there is a place at chadstone which i have seen myself where they fix it for you in 3 hours for a cost of around $100. is this screen going to be some bodgy screen or is it good enough not to notice the difference. and also what if i get the screen done there then get insurance and break it again, will the insurance cover it given it's not the original screen?

I have been trying to get an Iphone 4 recently on a plan but have had no luck in finding any places with stock. Would preferably like to stay with Optus but happy to change as long as I can keep my number. Looked into buying online but I don't have a credit card so there goes that idea.

Anyone know any places in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne with stock or another option?

No. Cheif will not implement TapaTalk, and therefore is not viewable using any of the forum apps.

Safari is your only option. If you find it too slow, either turn off avatars and signatures through BigFooty, or dont load images in Safari (if thats possible)

Good luck getting one through Optus. I actually read finbarr's post on the other page and now it all makes sense.

I started enquiring for an upgrade through Optus in November, got told to ring in December so did that twice, then got told to ring early January as they had no stock. I rang again and this time I was told they do not do upgrades over the phone now and I had to visit a store, went in there and had to put my name down on a massive waiting list. They could have easily told me about this waiting list when I initially enquired and now look forward to the day my contract runs out with them which is mid-March.

Ended up firing an email off and got told a member of their 'Retention Group' would contact me to discuss options but it has been almost 2 weeks and I have heard nothing.

I would strongly consider moving to Telstra, I work in the Telecommunications Industry so naturally Telstra are a bit of an enemy, but I walked in to a store last Wednesday and walked out with an iPhone 4. Could not be happier, their coverage has been excellent so far. My number also ported over from Optus within 2 hours so there are no issues with losing your current number.

Why not, is it going to cost him some precious BFSC monies?

I think so. Check the 'iPhone App' thread on the Suggestions board, he has been asked many times over a 2 year period, and hasn't changed his stance.

Consume not working for anyone else on Telstra?

Bloody thing hasn't updated for more than a week now. Likewise with the Telstra website, i'm positive i've used more than 27% of my data allowance but it hasn't budged.

Theres an app called 'Forums' by Connex Keysolutions.
I've been using it for about a year for all of my favourite forums that don't have mobile versions of their sites, Highly recommend it!

If Apple wanna be serious about their OS, it's about time they got some of the simple things right. I think the biggest weakness with iOS from the beginning has been the lack of a proper customisable home screen. That's what people expect with a PDA yet iOS (non-JB) just offers screens of folders and icons. That's really shit for 2011, I would have expected that 10 years ago.

The calendar is sub-standard. The Contacts is even worse. From a locked screen (no passcode), it takes me 7 distinct gestures to turn WiFi on, 8 to turn on bluetooth. This is ridiculous. Why is no one at Apple addressing these fundamental issues? For a device that claims it's user-friendly, there are a lot of things that are a pain in the ass to do.

Let's see what iOS 5 brings. If Apple don't smarten up, the iPhone will be a niche player in years to come.

Anyone serious JBs and enables all those features you just mentioned (which I'm sure you know). There is a reason like 1.5-2m people JB.

The only thing really lacking is Flash support, but if more and more adapt HTML5 like YouTube, then it shouldn't be a problem, as Flash is a pain.

The main appeal of an iPhone is still the App Store. Sister recently got the new BlackBerry. I dunno if I expected more, but their App Store equivalent was pretty stock standard. Reminded my of the Ovi store. The screen was also shit, quality and accuracy of my touch.

I understand that. I also understand that it's a flawed business model that dictates that users must JB in order to get a far better user experience, while at the same time opening up the entire app store for free.
