Couldnt find any recent threads on the iPhone.

Anyhoo was wondering if anyone has one yet? And if they work in Australia yet? I heard they dont work here yet wih our SIMs or something...

I fiddled with one in the UK a few months back and thought it was pretty neat. My cousin is in Hong Kong at the moment where they sell unlocked iPhones, and I figured if they work here I might get him to pick one up for me.

So whats the word. People got them? Enjoy them? Do they work here? Hows the connectivity?

Also, I have a phone for business already, this would be to replace my old sony ericsson casual phone.

yer there is no nothing wrong with it...it should be able to work here...try buying one on ebay...there cheap

The work here, My sisters had 1 for around half a yr and she is on Optus.
I think when they come out in Aus they will only be on the 3 network.
You wont be able to pick a cheap 1 up though, They are still around $700 on ebay

I was about to get one for $650, but decided to wait for the 3G version. I personally think it will be on Telstra as they are hyping up the 3G network, but rumours are flying round for all providers.

I also heard there might be some laws that state the phone has to be unlocked, like in several Europe countries.

Yes they work in Australia, BUT you willnot get one second of support from any Apple store in Australia I know because we have been told (I work for aapple reseller) to turn people away if they are having issues with it because it's been unlocked which Apple says voids your warranty.

As for any good? yes not bad, not 3g but Apple says that would kill the batt. life.
You can buy them from here, MLC/MKL/whatever is selling them on Elizabeth Street, just 200m from Nextbyte. For about $600 for the smaller one.

So far there has been no word on weather they will be sold here, Apple wants to but its not like other areas where they're been sold.
Telstra owns 80% of the towers, Apple wants Telstra, Telstra doesn't want to give up their music store and Apple want sign with them unless they do.
No word on Virgin, Vodafone or 3 even getting in the door yet.
Our BDM (Apple rep) is one of the 3 most powerful men in Apple Australia and he has said "don't hold onto the hope that you'll have one in your hands this year"

While on Apple, Nextbyte are getting Macbook Air's on Monday, we have a demo now but stock monday.

3G shouldn't kill battery life. There are many phones that are 3G and GPS that have great battery life.

I will bet anyone that we will see the iPhone released here by the end of the year.

i was in the US in october last year and everyone had them. A few of my friends kept them for a week then went back to their nokias n95.

I wouldn't waste my time with them to be honest, although the touch technology is innovative what the phone can actually do is second rate to the phones that are available and have been available for years now.

Not only that, i'm not sure which provider apple have a contract with in Australia but in the UK they have a 5 year contract with the carphone werehouse, so the phone contracts are uncompetitive at best, in reality they're an absolute rip off.

I'm a mac girl but wouldn't bother with an i phone.

The iPhone is sold under O2 in the UK, not Carphone Warehouse.

You just unlock them anyway. Stuff the contracts.

Fingers crossed Australia gets an unlocked version like some of Europe.

Yes they're with O2 but you can only get a contract through the carphone werehouse (carphone werehouse isn't a network).

You cannot unlock the phone you HAVE to go on a contract which are very very exy.

You can unlock it. It isn't legal, but it is easily done. Just google it and there are atleast three programs that do it.

You were right about the phone being second rate when it comes to the functionality, but that all changes when you jailbreak it. There are so many user-created programs it isn't funny, and with the SDK to be released within two weeks there will be even more programs.
