Some players were getting paid that for sitting on the bench. Pretty sure that happened to Maxwell and Warner (for some of the games) last tournament.

An even better time to be a cricketer.

Apart from watching matches from my lounge room, I don't know how much money these franchises are raking in. Is this sustainable or just an over-hyped, short-lived party?

I'm not really sure, but they have to be going close to making money. The excess from the previous seasons isn't sustainable. This year we have a bit more sensible spending but I'm still not sure these levels of cash are sustainable regardless though.

This year they do seem to have cut down a little, I think they will find the groove and will improve on their spending etc over the next few years.

Never taken much of an interest in IPL but will watch this year. Who actually puts up the cash for these purchases, surely it doesn't all come from advertising? Is it massive firms that back or sponsor the teams? Indian gov step in?

The actors in that country are literally multi millionaires that own the franchise plus sponsors also kick in.

It would be awesome to have that kind of money and have your own T20 team. Mine is called the Adelaide Crows lol.

When you have a pop of a billion you will always have corp sponsors paying for the advertising in the millions.

The IPL is great in that they have cricketers all over the world.

It has surprised me that the BBL dont recruit a few Indians to increase their commercial appeal to India. The EPL has identified a market and hence are looking for Indian soccer players which is hard because none of them are at Premier League level and everyone there plays cricket.

The TV rights deal in India is worth $140m a year, the bulk of which is distributed to the franchises.

I think thats wrong, if the AFL gets close to a billion??? Cricket in India >>>>> Daylight >>>>> 1 year >>>>> AFL in terms of how many people follow the game.

Yes Cricket in India is huge, I travel to India on holidays love it there, and they have about 5 channels just for cricket from allover the world 24 hours a day.

My mates tell me stories all the time about cricket in India.

Apparently Sachin owns a Ferrari but can only drive it at the dead of night ie early morning.

It would be frightening for him I could imagine.

He is a very decent and humble man. I dont think there are that many top class professionals that have conducted themselves like ares-holes of the field.

BBL wants to recruit but BCCI doesn't give permission for Indian players because it is domestic season.

That is an absolute bullshit comment. (not you, the BCCI)

The exposure of playing cricket in Australia can only help their game!!!!

Actors, corporates and investors

For example, Mumbai Indians is owned/invested by the richest man in India Mukesh Ambani of Reliance. RCB is owned/invested by Vijay Mallya of United Breweries.
Some of them are funded by actors - KKR by Shah Rukh Khan, Kings X1 Punjab by Preity Zinta.

Most have them have multiple investors in the same model as corporates.

Im surprised Tendulkar retired, could have made millions for about 6 weeks of work and would only need to bat for about 4-5 overs.

Then again he is richer than the entire Australian cricket team.

Craig Simmons was never going to get picked up.

So, just to clarify this:

Mitchell is going to get US$888,000 for bowling 24 balls in 16 matches. He might occasionally get a hit.

A good time to be a cricketer. :thumbsu:

Bit of a misconception. Only gets that figure if he plays every single match.

Sentiment is still spot on though.
