Can't see it happening. He's been in pretty average form in the BBL. He's been a great Captain, amazing fielder, average-to-poor batsman.

Yeah fair enough but still think he'd be a good depth player at a cheap price.

Finch, Yuvraj, Mishra and Behrendorff are the guys I really, really hope that the Daredevils target. Also wouldn't mind if we tried to sign KP or Vijay again on reduced wages.

Wasn't Finch terrible last year in the IPL?

Will Finch be available?

Seems to want to play first class cricket for Yorkshire- I don't rate him at all as a test prospect but at least he's making the attempt

Always an interesting couple of days. Haven't really done my research but is Mitch Marsh intending on playing this year? Could be in for a massive payday. Other Australians I am interested in are Behrendorff and Boyce/Zampa (very unlikely but still) then can't really see any domestic batsmen being picked up. Seems harder to get picked up these days, mainly due to the cutback to 8 teams.

When do we tour the Windies?

Marsh might not be available

For the West Indies tour if playing IPL ?

unavailable for the IPL

Any player who skips a tour to play IPL should be marked never to play for Australia again

Though Marsh would never make that choice

On our side the tongue is in cheek but I wonder what the Windies players will pick?

I sadly fear some of them give up on West Indies and just play for themselves and their T20 franchisers.
Thankfully in Australia the culture here amongst cricketers is that if you are good enough you aim for Test honours and representing nation and I suspect 99% would rather do that than let it go to earn some extra money playing in IPL.
However if you believe you almost certainly just short of international standard but can make a decent career from T20's as a specialist at that format there will be some that make that call around 25 years of age and go that path. Someone like Dirk Nannes been a T20 specialist and got no problem with it.
I think for Pollard and Dwayne Bravo of West Indies that has to be their career path now whether they wanted it or not.
For young guys like Mitch Marsh in Australia I am sure he will chase the national honours dream and if he wants to cash in later do what Brad Hodge and Mike Hussey have done and do it after your peak years. Every player has to pick for themselves. Quite clearly if you are someone like Shaun Tait and break down if playing longer forms of games than T20 is ideal to still play but realize the national dream you need to put aside as was never likely to work anyway.

there was an interesting article about the state of WI cricket on cricketinfo the other day
http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/819633.html
it covers how Pollard has apparently put his hand up for WI selection over the years but is ignored.

Yet he has a better FC average than many of the batsman that have been given a chance ahead of him. They should have tried him in Tests at some stage at least.

that's pretty concerning for the Windies.

I mean everytime I've seen him he just looks like he'd fail at test level

Last year the West Indies finished a tour early because of a pay dispute. The reality is that playing IPL and the resultant t20 competitions provides a stable income that playing for the national team cannot, at least for West Indies cricketers

I remember a year or two back the West Indian contracts structure was explained on cricinfo. From memory, tier one players like Gayle 'only' earnt a bit less than $200k from the WICB each year and it dropped off significantly from there. I daresay with Richard Pybus' report things may have changed, but the disparity between that and the million dollar contracts handed out by CA and the ECB etc. undoubtedly causes a lot of envy and frustration for West Indian cricketers.
