I don't follow IPL generally but looking forward to see Punter and Tendulkar batting together :thumbsu:

400k for Punter is worth it, even with his advancing age he can really take apart average bowling, and there is PLENTY of that in the IPL.

what are they paying gilly to come out and slog for 20 balls every couple of matches?

Gilly pulled the pin after the conclusion of last season I believe.

Just heard on sportfm that filly will be lining up for the kings XI, may be just on the grapevine though
He's still contacted for this year and they have retained him but I reckon he would only pull on the boots if absolutely necessary.

Bloody Mumbai bought Punter, Maxwell, Coulter-Nile and Hughes. The chances of Coulter-Nile playing much aren't high, I'd say. Wish they'd kept their bids to themselves.
Well, didn't NCL get 450k or something like that? I highly doubt he won't be playing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Gilly largely been a failure in the IPL?
Well, he has hit a tonne in one of the seasons, but not sure outside of that. And as someone said above, he is a massive drawcard, not many guys are universally liked across the world as he is.

really gotta wonder if guys like shannon hurn who chose footy over cricket (but were very very promising cricketers) would make the same choice now with that sort of coin floating around
It'd hard to say, but it would be a much harder choice. Mitch Marsh has certainly made the right call, but then there is Alex Keath who is struggling and contemplating coming back to footy.

Basically what happens is they get a few opportunities early, so they start and then if they don't perform they pick one of their other internationals. Usually an IPL team has 6-10 imports so they'll play their highest paid players first, if they don't perform will then look at their reserve stocks. Eoin Morgan performed terribly in his first IPL and didn't get much of a game after the first couple of rounds and hasn't played since even though being one of the more inventive players in ODI and T20's today.

hit and miss like a lot of his career but the hits are ****en big

hes a massive drawcard, bums on seats.
:thumbsu:
Deccan won the second IPL with him in charge and the players who play with him praise him to the skies as a skipper. He's still very popular with Indian fans, nah stuff that, he's popular with just about everyone.

He and Shaun Marsh put together a record domestic T20 partnership last year (or maybe it was the year before). Talk about rolling back the years. Bloody beautiful hitting from them as they both play classical cricket. Gilly still has one of the best looking swings in the business because of that high backlift.

Does that mean Hughes won't start unless someone more expensive fails?

would be pretty cool to see.

interesting to see clarke going to the ipl now when he bypassed it in season 1 (?) to concentrate on test cricket (also retired from international t20).

now we have 10 tests vs england he can suddenly play? please clarke rest up for the ashes!

So Ponting has been appointed as the captain of MI which is a very sensible decision imo. While I don't rate his captaincy as highly as his records suggest, nevertheless he's heads and shoulders above Tendulkar in that department. This also means that we will see him playing all the games unless he fails quite badly and they have to replace him mid way through. On the other hand if he can perform both as a player and captain, at $400K he may turn out to be a real steal(I'm sure he will be given a lot more in incentives though).
