IPL destroying cricket is not a new thing but in the past few years it has levelled up. First ABD had to retire from SA to stay fit for IPL, Then IPL led to a lot of injuries coming into 2019 WC, Once again SA was the main victim. Now CSA saying that they will have wait on IPL schedule to see if they should play the home series against Pakistan. Quinton De Kock is also taking a break from SA cricket and wait and watch him 'recover' miraculously just in time for IPL.

Same as Warner he will be fit when the IPL starts... i still think he faked his injury just to have a rest

Frankly I'm not at all interested in IPL for all of the normal reasons. And it is *interesting* that some players cannot play the real game of Test cricket but can get it together for the hit and giggle money spinner.

cricket is now just a silly slap happy contest

enjoy it for what it is and remember what it was

In the last fortnight we have seen:

- arguably, given the circumstances surrounding it (player on debut, B team to pick from, away, Asia, the required amount of runs) the greatest debut Test innings ever played

- an absolute masterclass in subcontinental batting from Joe Root combined with a 38-year-old quick making the decisive inroads with the ball, in Asia

- a bowler who used to be able to bat take a five wicket haul and hit a century from number 8 on a wicket in which the opposition made no more (individually) than 42

- an opening batsman smash 160 on a pitch some people thought was too awful to play on

Things really aren’t that bad

Honestly how many has it actually taken out of the game that would be otherwise happily going about their Test careers?

My team is the one who has lost the most out of it and even those players are exaggerated in number.

Gayle (who still managed 100 tests) and Bravo are the only two that had successful test careers cut short by it. Russell played one test, Narine a handful.

It doesn't do anything for players other than money (which is the only reason they play) yet a lot of players get released after a season

IPL is still the premier T20 league, and anyone that compares the IPL and BBL in quality have got to have a good rethink. I will be watching the IPL auction tonight with great interested.
That being said, I still believe players need to focus on playing for countries and state first rather than opting for these T20 leagues.
These league like the IPL, CPL, Abu Dhabi T10 League should be for those that have retired from international cricket or are no longer competitive at an international level.

and Australian player will miss the end of the shield season for it.
centrally contracted players should stay to the end or forfeit a portion of pay

Been some magnificent test cricket lately. All the more reason to bemoan the IPL encroaching on the calendar.
