It's not as simple as that. For a start we have a population of 5 and a half million. It would be hard to sustain that. I think in years to come there will be some sort of payment scheme (there already is one of sorts) but it wouldn't be like a salary type thing that pro athletes get in other sports. The next big thing is the way GAA is set up. You play for your club and county all your life. You don't transfer to other clubs! It's in your blood to play for your parish. People in other sports will never understand it as Gaelic football is unique in this regard. Some of the best footballers ever have come from tiny clubs and played for them since they were 6 years old and once their playing days are done they manage teams and take administration roles like chairman etc
