Maybe she's sick of knobs on dating apps and wants to meet a real life person with similar interests? Did she have earphones in?

Next time give some small talk a go and see what happens.

Similarly. I've got a Guinea pig who watches me while I work out and then runs and hides when I catch him staring at me.

Sorry, at day 236 of lockdown, that's all I've got. 🤪
She didnt.

No seriously, she was way out of my league. Its like sure, I can play Div 5 amateur reserves footy but competing against an AFL player is a totally different proposition. I dont mind taking on a SANFL/VFL player without any fear or regrets. :drunk:

Not to mention, there is a time and a place IMO to talk/hit on girls. Seeing a girl basically for the first time, I never talk to them at the gym. Also reeks of desperation.

Sure if this becomes a routine, lol. I would probably say hello. :$

Yeah, that's fair. I'm the same. I won't say hello to anyone, guys or girls, unless we cross paths semi regularly. I'm pretty selective about those I chat to as well. Don't want to gasbag too much in there.

Thats the problem with saying hello too much, in the end the gym becomes like a social occasion. Then you end up needing to almost warm up that particular muscle group again after a long break.

I had one guy that would tell me life stories in between his sets, instead of quick short comments.

That's the way to go about it

My teens/early 20s if I trained peak hour onwards I'd always gasbag to someone I knew as everyone knew everyone back then, always meant my sessions were 90-120 minutes, just far too long and probably stagnated any gains I may have made

Come when I hit about 28 it finally dawned on me that gym has to be health first and foremost, get in keep your mind on the job and get out. If I ever talked to anyone I knew I'd make sure it'd be whenever I needed a 3-4 minute breather after a few hard/heavy sets or between different excercises and that was about it.

Yep

Best time to talk is after a few heavy/hard sets and need recharge time, that's about it.

Or do ya cardio together

Yesterday I did a slight hamstring "strain" on the elliptical. :drunk:

I presume its a strain as I was able to run on the treadmill afterwards. Probably shouldnt have, then again I was get sometimes aches or pains when warming up that turn out to be nothing.

Any posters masquerading as part time doctors on Bigfooty?

Im actually giving myself "Post of the Day". :$

I go to another level at my gym to do my warm ups and a guy took all the 8,9,10kgs dumbbells.

You might say big deal, even in this selfish scenario I try not to care. However, he wasnt using them as weights, he was doing some f**ked up exercise of hopping/jumping over them on one foot.

I punched myself in the face.

The funny thing, is that I dont think he was trying to be an a-hole, I genuinely think he thought there was nothing wrong with what he is doing.

Its the gym, I have seen some f**ked up sh*t over the years.

Dont get me wrong, I know, but I have never got to the point of blind roid rage.

If anything its a shake my head and wtf am I seeing moment.

I mean if Monday is National Chest Day, then Tuesday is National Back Day, today I saw a f**wit using his entire body weight with the lat pulldown. I mean wtf can you say to these dicks? Mind you I do like it, it means they are either closer to quitting or getting an injury.

Not a real pulldown until you load up, stand up and hang off the bar

You get the opportunity to combine self defence training simultaneously while hitting the weights all in the one place.
It's a total body workout when you stop and think about it.

Sure the manager arks up and stuff like mirrors, dumbbells, ribs etc occasionally get broken. All part of the cut and thrust of a vibrant gym environment imho.

Manager's could even sublet an area for physios and doctors to treat injuries.

A gym with the complete package.

When you buy a new power rack (a huge upgrade on what you used previously), follow tracking information on expected delivery date, the day before expected delivery you dissemble the old rack, rearrange the mats, give garage a vacuum etc.

Then come delivery day, the delivery guy doesn't rock up until after four ******* thirty in the arvo after waiting around for him all day, takes an hour to unbox everything and bin most of the waste (have to save room until next weeks bin), look over the manual and hardware, get an idea what to do, inspect the steel and working parts, all looks in good nick and looks to be of pretty decent quality, start putting it together by yourself, aside from being a little awkward it is pretty straightforward to assemble, then when it gets to putting up the rear stabiliser that weighs like 20kgs, you can only put 1 bolt in strongarming it and can't go any further because everyone is asleep...

Thanks delivery driver you absolute flog for having me near the end of your run, won't have this done until like Friday if these wrenches I bought don't fit

Ok, calling it a night

20210928_222159.jpg

Halfway done tightening it, thankfully the 24mm socket and wrench I bought last week fit the M16 hardware perfectly (biggest bolts/nuts I've used so far, most of my other equipment is M12 or M10). Done most of the base which was the hardest to tighten and only a couple up top, but should hold overnight unless another earthquake occurs

Got out of there at 1015, was getting a bit late with my ratchet socket grinding away tightening stuff up, probably annoyed the neighbours, but eh, delivery driver should've came earlier, haven't had tea yet and don't know if I will, but I need a lie down.

Wasted like an hour putting up that Rugged R crossmember, but anyways, on the home stretch, wont take long to tighten the rest tomorrow, will bench in it tomorrow and deadlift on Thursday :) might whack my high pulley on it too and do some triceps, actually good to have 2 different chin up bars on it for my high pulley and they're about 10-12 inches difference in height, can vary the heights for different exercises

Looking forward to utilising the westside spacing, will be able to find the perfect safety height so I can smash out bench properly instead of staying well within limits like I did on my old rack for nearly a year because it only had 3 inch spacings which was either too high or too low (only hit 120kgs on old rack twice and was when I had a spot available)

This rack has a couple of well priced attachments which I'll look to get around Xmas time should they be in stock, lat pulldown, dip attachment, weight storage pegs all on the radar. Will probably grab the matching flat bench as it looks rock solid too, then I'll save up for specialty barbells in 2022 for training variation.

Will need an extra pair of J cups if someone trains with me and some safety spotter arms too as it only came with pin pipes and while they'll do the job and the pipes are beefy as, they're quite noisy and could damage the barbell if I'm failing alot, the spotter arms will provide better padding/shock absorption and be easier to use/setup, though I'll probably use the pin pipes for squats still as it'll give full rack coverage (spotter arms for bench/rack pulls)

All in all it looks pretty decent for something made in China, really nice powder coat on it (American brand though, part of the Body-Solid range). A huge upgrade on what I was using over the last year, only $220 more on the base price too (will sell the old rack for a $200-250 loss later in the year after lockdown, but eh, looks like I've well and truly thumped the problem out of the park, wish I found these guys last year, but better now than never).

*took me a good half hour writing this :(

Not so much a complaint, but rather a concern.

I was in the gym the other day, there was this huge 'roider doing his workout, big deal I guess, plenty of guys on the gear. However with this particular guy, there appears one or two screws definitely loose and he genuinely looks like he is about to go into a fit of rage.

I know its coming, I also know my limitations, Im getting out of his way. :$
Finally push came to shove.

On Friday, the 'roider was using two different workout stations to do his workouts when he could have done them all at the one station.

I asked if I could use one of the stations, as it was my last exercise and wanted and always need to finish the session well on a high note. He was actually friendly and welcoming to my surprise and introduced himself to me, offered to remove his stuff and obliged.

We chatted for a bit while I was there inbetween my sets, he is very intense and committed to training. However, definitely as I suspected not 100% all there, there is one or two screws very loose. I definitely dont think though he will have the 'roid rage I predicted, only because I dont think anyone would be game enough or stupid enough to take him on in the first place and f**k him off to that extent.

In some ways I do feel sorry for him, Ive seen some girls actually go to another area of the gym while training. I saw another put her jacket back on when he was in the area and then remove it when he left. From my vantage point, I dont think he was doing anything wrong or creepy, but I guess the girl probably felt more comfortable. Mind you this was outside operating hours when there was only four of us on the gym floor in the arvo.

Claiming "Post of the day". :drunk:

A guy who has missed the past three weeks with flu comes up to me to say hello and complaining how he has lost strength.

FMD. The minute he mentioned flu I kept backing away telling him Im in a rush to finish my workout.

While I know 99.9% he doesnt have covid, I still dont want to take chances with your every day garden variety flu.

Get 100% well then come back, especially in the current world environment.
