Asia Is a US-China war about to break out?

Because the Hong Kongers could only fight back with like petrol bombs.

Big countries don't launch head on attacks on countries that can actually fight back, because the cost of winning is so high that it's basically pointless and hurts you more.

Same reason the US has never actually attacked Iran despite all the talk.

Do I agree China wants control of Taiwan?

Yes, most certainly.

But the idea there's going to be some 1944 style mass amphibious invasion is a fantasy cooked up to sell planes and missiles and stuff.
Taiwan aint a big country compared to china. Its only 3 times more populous then hong kong.

and you get the entire human civilisation consists of non stop invasions?

the current time is unusual. Western democratic countries have developed human rights that has made it hard for western governments to wage war. China suffers none of those problems. Its not democractic and it doesnt have to care about its citizens rights. Plus china doesnt even see it as war. They see themselves as the natural owners of taiwan already. The onky reason they havent done it already was they were worried that the west would intervene. But given the west just rolled over on hong kong then china is now coming to the realisation the west wont actually intervene in taiwan.

Taiwan has a very modern and well equipped military. Hong Kongers had umbrellas.

We're more likely to witness Essendon winning a final than we are a full scale Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

How many wars this century have been waged by western democratic countries compared to how many wars waged by China?

And now the US Government is provoking Russia, because why not have a two-pronged approach in "hostilities that the United States really needs right now".

Ended the war in Afghanistan only to look for a new excuse to give hundreds of billions on the military.

It is already underway.

There is not ever going to be a big ships and missiles and fancy planes was between the US and China. That could quickly escalate into something that leaves both sides incinerated in a nuclear holocaust.

The big play now is for the US to gin up a jihad in Xinjiang. The rushed withdrawal from Afghanistan left all the weapons needed for that (no need for weapons ratlines from Libya to Syria etc like in 2011).

The Taliban are being set up to return to their previous incarnation as the brave warriors of the Mujahideen who took on the godless commies.

That's how you beat China.

You create a long and grinding and brutal insurgency out west.

You want mothers in the big cities protesting in the streets at their sons being turned into catmeat by IEDs on dusty roads outside Urumqi.

Bombings on the subway in Shanghai. Years and years of it.

That creates the internal pressures and "disharmony" that the CCP fears.

And that effort is underway right now. The US will likely be successful to some degree as well.

Look at it this way. Afghanistan has been in perpetual war for 40 years. The Taliban have won. They know the US aren’t coming back. They have never had ambitions outside of Afghanistan. The Uighurs are a different ethnic group the Taliban haven’t been particularly friendly too.

Now with the conflict over the Taliban can look at either continuing it in Xianjiang by supporting the Uighurs, or allying China and reaping the benefits of trade via the Belt and Road initiative. Afghanistan could benefit from a transport route from China Down the Wakhan Corridor or up from Pakistan, then across to Iran and the Gulf. It bring investment and money into the country, and they know China will have no interest in waging a war to overthrow them.

So the Taliban getting behind a massive insurgency in China? Strongly doubt it
