you mean keep the faith the same way schmucks like d_henderson and VEEDUBS kept the faith all of last year? What a redundant sentiment.

My entreaty to 'keep the faith' is all about sticking with THE CLUB and not allowing disappointing situations with players (past or present), staff (past or present) or on-field performance to distract us from continuing to support the boys.

Not sure how that will ever be a 'redundant sentiment' for anyone who wants to follow the hoops?

Go well,
S.

But nobody here is voicing displeasure with the club. Just the well-looked after individual who decided he was better off not being there anymore. The club by all accounts was as much reduced to spectating as we were.

You don't need to keep the faith in something that is measured by output, you just need to keep interested in what those outputs total - good or bad. Faith is irrelevant to support.

'Keep the faith' is a signature I use, not a comment on the actual thread in question.

I know I'm by no means a regular poster on here but I've used it plenty of times when responding to threads about all sorts of issues on this forum.

Apologies if it had you thinking I was making some other veiled observation.

That is all.

Keep the...(oh, wait) :D

Just read the last part of your most recent post - what I meant by faith is bolded in the dictionary definition below...

6. the obligation of loyalty or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement, etc.: Failure to appear would be breaking faith.

yeah
but given judas raised it

Because it makes us look like a bunch of sooks who can't get over it and move on. We're stronger than that and we're better than that. Now is the time for us to support the men and women who remain loyal servants of the Geelong Football Club - the players, the coaches, the administrators, the support staff et al. Now is not the time to be reacting to every word that comes out of Gary's mouth. Act not in bitterness, lest you be consumed with needless anger. Life at the Geelong Football Club goes on - we will probably lose to GWS as well, but we'll continue to exist as a club, as a community and those who remain loyal to the club will reap the rewards. To whoever doesn't want to be a part of this, good luck to you, but you're the one missing out, not us. Let's move on and look ahead to the new season. We are Geelong.

What utter tripe. Last I heard nobody was required to take a solemn oath to become a football fan; just throw a few hundred the club's way and they give you a nice hat and fancy keyring. This isn't Macbeth.

Post of the year so far.

Why be upset with him? What would you have all done if offered millions of dollars to leave your current role?

The guy got us into 3 grand finals, winning 2, and narrowly missing playing in a fourth. He won a brownlow with us and has been the best player in the comp for us over the last 3 years. Yes, i'd have loved him to stay like all of us, but i'm not going to boo the guy because he jumped at a great opportunity.

This also isn't a place where one is obliged to launch into a meaningless diatribe about semantics.

That really is all.

Go Cats,

I can understand him taking the money. But what this debate is about is his value system. The money was more important than loyalty to the club and his team mates. And let's face it, with the deals Costa was putting together he wouldn't have been on poverty street.

I will never forgive Colbert for his dog act. Repaying loyalty by stabbing the club in the back. This is just saying I can understand reasons why Ablett did it, and I wonder if Bomber's behaviour carries some blame for that, but he's still a traitor for doing it. It just shows us what his moral values are.

Amen brother! :thumbsu:

agree about moving on, but those teammates that we've heard interviewed, headed by Harley, have all said it was an impossible deal to walk away from, they would have done it, good luck to him = condoning.

Anyway, who really knows until they can walk in his shoes, and none of us will ever be there, and it is still a very courageous decision, albeit unpalatable for most of us. The Nathan factor, as said before, is not to be underestimated.

As far as handling departures, how could he have done it better? None of the others did it differently. Just that he is Gary Ablett.

harley also said that judas would be selfish, and would make a decision without thinking of others

harley was also the one who said pay everyone and pay me what is left over (so no he would not have left for money)

As for Nathan, he will show how interested he is, total crap

He could have handlesdit better by saying he wanted to be close to his brother, he could have not sold gear at stupid prices, he could have listen to the coach, he could have not bitched about missing out on the brownlow, he could have not negotiated whilst being a GFC employee

Mate , just get over it and move on - talk about a dog with a bone.
I bet you're still chasing that kid that borrowed 10 cents from you in Grade 1 ............

Abletts exit was fair enough, he owed the club nothing and gave plenty.

The thread should be 'Is Thompson a traitor', I'd say 'yes', of the worst type, he hide his intentions behind the Ablett trial, pointing his finger at Ablett while planning his own departure in secret.

Nobody will miss Thompson though, without Balme to pick up after him he'll be just another monkey in an Essendon polo.

Yes, Ablett is a traitor and in my eyes has really ruined his Geelong legacy, he SHOULDN'T go down as a legend at the club. He and Bomber were already committed to other clubs during last season, to me that's an absolute disgrace, none showed any class or loyalty and i couldn't care less as to what happens to them. Ablett just gave the club a big smack in the face, because me (like many others) thought Gary came accross as a man who loves Geelong and would be loyal to the club, we were wrong, the club has given him a lot and so has the fans (Can't deny he gave a lot to us aswell) and just left for extra $$$.

Fooooorrrreeeeeeesssssstttt... Get over it already..Ablett is a rich man and loves the Gold Coast..Good on him.. move on Bartel be gone next..If you are still around next year will you come up with 100 threads on Bartel??

He accepted an offer he couldn't refuse, engineered by AD and the AFL. There is no way he could have stated his intensions before the end of the season - could you just imagine the media response! He didn't break his contract, he played his best to the very end, he didn't sleep with the wife/girlfriend of a team-mate, he helped us win two flags, and scored a brownlow for himself.

Regarding the article that started the OP - of course he's going to say what he said (does anyone really think he'd say anything different). Even in the dim dark future he'd probably never admit to having made a mistake (at least not publicly).

I like what STC wrote, We are Geelong, established 1859, we are more than one person and we have so much to look forward to in 2011.

I look at it like this
Tom Harley debut 1999 round 14 gfc career span 1999-2009 GAMES -197 goals -11
Gary Ablett jr debut 2002 round 1 gfc career span 2002-10 GAMES _192 goals 262
It sucks they both didnt get to 200 games and be written up in history as geelong cats 200 games players. :( life goes on. 2 time premiership players, 2 time premiership captain, brownlow medallist, the list goes on. ablett did a lot for the history of geelong.. he will also be remembered for leaving for cash :p
