Exactly, compare that with Colin Sylvia or worse, Richard Tambling.

It's a lottery.
yeah of course its a lottery but 3 in the top 20 are better odds than 1 in the top 20. hey all im sayin is i have the patience to see us become a great side again but demitrio has ****ed up everyone by introducing these meaningless teams which has made it so much friggin harder for us to become a great side again

And never stoop to the levels of Carlton and Lance "I enjoy missing several set shots from 30 metres out which I would normally send through the middle of the big sticks" Whitnall.
yeah mate exactly right about whitnalls first quarter misses not to mention giving a club great in lappin an early exit in rd 21 and then giving whitnall the arse at the seasons end. but carltanks tanking runs much deeper than that, and we aint tanking hence we will be seen as legitimately a shit team. i cant see us gving up 9 games in a row when we are in a winning position at half time.
we all know carltank signed up judd half way through 2007 season meaning they virtually had to embarress themselves to lose those games to get the west coast deal done. both carltank and judd are scum of the earth but our position is completely different to them

I'm not convinced we're good enough to win more than four games anyway, but I hope we don't end up in that sick scenario with our own fans cheering against us. And if that is how you're going to act then please don't poison the rest of us with your b/s.

I'm for top of the draft priority picks being abolished altogether to be honest.

think eveyone has their own opinion without me "poisoning" them with my bullshit, dont u think

However, let's not forget that we did manage to make a Grand Final in 2000. North Melbourne won premierships in 1996 and 1999. St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs have been in preliminary finals in 1997, 1998, 2004, 2005 and 2008. None of these clubs have been blessed with money, yet have still done quite well on field (at times).
I know that you mentioned other factors but I am elaborating on some of those and pointing out how critical they are to our success and also a work in progress. Your 5 step plan mimicking Hawthorn and Carlton doesn't reflect how times have changed.

Take everything that you have referred to prior to 2007 and throw it out the window. The game is not just quick, it is absolutely frenetic and the pace of the game now compared to that of our last decent year (2006) makes it a completely different game. Player conditioning has never been as important. Tactically the game has never been so convoluted where gameplan takes time to instill. Not only do we have an underdeveloped footy department, it is a fact that Melbourne spends the least amount of $ on player medical resources such as with MRIs and physio.* Have you wondered why we are so injury prone and unfit at the current level of AFL footy, not to mention slow? Not only that but even if we are lucky to get alot of this infrastructure in place it arguably will take some time for the benefits to translate on a regular basis.

Also don't worry about the Dogs, they are going quite well with player conditioning and tracking with all their pills they are taking. You may want to read this article in full, it is scary how far we are behind the other teams. At a time when we are looking forward to training at a ground without a cricket pitch in the off season, other teams are importing "reaction machines" because they are used at Manchester United ffs.

I am not canning your opinion or getting too carried away (your outline seems reasonable in a perfect world) it is just that you can only rate a team by their opposition at any given time and if we don't address some major issues going forward then our future will not pan out the way you have stated. If we dot our "i"s and cross our "t"s with our infrastructure then sure I can go along with alot of what you have said but given our situation it is a very big if.

One things for sure we won't win any games while our Key Forward marks inside fifty and his most creative option is to pass off to Cameron Bruce.
That was classic Miller. If Junior had been around he would have been the second choice.
we need Robbo, Wonna, Maric and Watts in the forward line

Melbourne Football Club does not play for draft picks.

No true supporter would sacrifice the feeling of those Fremantle and Brisbane wins last year just for draft picks.

I think this should be the last we hear of the tanking issue for the whole season... **** it, its b/s and we dont wont it... were developing a side that actually is going to excite us... we have a decent backline for the first time in forever, young midfielders who are going to be able to play, were starting to get some quicker players in there with the aboriginal boys and stil a few 2 come in and weve got some fowards who are guna be dam good for us in the future lead by watts... no matter what happens for the rest of the season we'l get another quality player at the end of the yr... give the boys a chance guys, were showing signs, we'l be a much better side come years end...

I am sick and tired of all the talk of draft picks. I hate watching football at the moment and anyone who finds comfort in us getting draft picks because we go at best 7 and 37 over 2 years and 12 and 54 over 3 years is a ******** and should follow another team or another sport because you clearly are not Melbourne supporters. We are the laughing stock of the AFL at the moment and it should be killing us as supporters.

If Bails walked up to me before the start of r22 and said "Brodie, we can win this game and finish with 5 wins for the season or we can loose, finish bottom of the ladder and have picks 1 and 2. what should we do?"

I'd back hand him for being dumb enough to ask me that question then go tell him to win the bloody game

lol i was wondering where that was going. Glad on how it ended.
First and foremost, how i wouldnt loveee to see the dees win every match, everyone on this board, who floats, should say the same thing.

To the guy who posted the "plan" it is funny how you didn't include imo the best team in the AFL at the moment in Geelong. Joel Selwood, one of the best examples without a doubt. The draft is an absolute gamble.

Give it 5 years Melbourne will without a doubt have one of the best facilities, a nice change. Would love the Juddster at the moment, I don't hate him, it shows how much he loves the club that we were a serious consideration, once he is retired he prob won't have passion for Melbourne. But for someone who played AFL he seemed to have a strong passion, being in the final four.

Lets look at the other names, Carlton, Essendon, Collingwood. Those are esteemed teams no question, our facilities at the moment and beyond crapola, forget draft picks, concentrate on facilities. Our injury list is still one of the largest out there. This should change with facilites, it has been like that for Melbourne wayyyy too long. It is not a coincidene anymore, if someone like Gutnick was to give melbourne a couple of dollars, make us have the number one facilities.

Sorry but one of our downfalls have been facilites not draft picks, we are as funny to say one of the best examples of random lottery, some of our best players are actually draft pics as in Davey and McDonald, also hopefully soon Spencer. :)

Good post. :thumbsu:

The reason I chose Hawthorn and Carlton is because they are good examples of teams who have bottomed out and built themselves up with high draft picks (which is the scenario we are in).

Geelong never really hit rock bottom, so it wouldn't make sense to compare our situation with theirs.

It pisses me off that every time I'm in a discussion about ANYTHING there's always one jackass that comes back with the old "but your opinion doesn't count, you barrack for Melbourne". :thumbsd:

if they really think that they have no idea and you probably shouldn't associate yourself with them...they could give you cancer

Call them a campaigner and walk off. End of story.

Sure, it's unpopular at a family reunion but they should know better.

I am quite enjoying seeing our youngster like Morton (28 disposals and a goal) and Bennel ( around 12 disposlals) play well and have an impact. Mortons kicking is much better and he is now got the confidence to kick goals (1 in every game this year)
I'm looking forward to seeing grimes back in the side.
