Brett Ratten has coached a senior AFL team three times at Metricon Stadium and despite his team going in as the favourite every time, he has an 0-3 coaching record at the ground. One loss in particular was probably the low point of his coaching career in 2012 when the loss to the Suns cost him his job at Carlton.

9 May 2009
14th Fremantle 13.10 (88) def. 4th Carlton 11.15 (81)

25 August 2012
17th Gold Coast 15.8 (98) def. 9th Carlton 11.20 (86)
Pre-Game Odds: Carlton - $1.03, Gold Coast - $14.40

11 July 2020
16th Fremantle 12.7 (79) def. 4th St Kilda 11.7 (73)
Pre-Game Odds: St Kilda - $1.45, Fremantle - $2.71

So is Ratts cursed at Metricon and will it continue tonight?

Why was Freo v Carlton in 2009 @ Metricon

The AFL were trying to force North Melbourne to relocate to the Gold Coast so a number of games were contracted to be played there. North eventually pulled out of the deal and the Suns were formed. The AFL still needed the games played on the Gold Coast but North refused to play there so the AFL sold the games to other Vic clubs to make up the shortfall.

I was behind the goals that night and watched Fevola put up some of the most pathetic efforts I'd ever seen from an AFL footballer. Just sulked the whole time.
