Is Buckley A Good Coach?

The senior coach is an important club figure and a legitimate topic of discussion. It's fair to do so and everyone has a right to express their view.

The mod team observed that the thread was dominated by a few protagonists and their points were repeated i.e. 8 years of regression vs marked improvement in 17,18 etc Pretty much everyone with a strong opinion has already expressed it here.

What further degraded discussion was the simplistic "sack FIGJAM" or "he's a legend" type posts.

This thread will remain open. If your view has slightly shifted or you have new thoughts please share. In an effort to encourage quality discussion repetitive statements and circular arguments will from now on be deleted as will silly posts suggesting that we sack a coach on match-day.

Buckley has done everything humanely possible to win a Collingwood premiership. It has been his focus for the past 27 years. Your statement is completely wrong.

I think they meant in their opinion he doesn’t have the capability of driving the team to WIN one. Which so far, he hasn’t in a decade.

BUT, I will say - it’s a bit of a silly statement because if you can take a team to within a goal of a flag, essentially you’ve done the exact same job with fate leaning to the other outcome.

Buckley absolutely can drive the team to win a flag, but it’s not looking likely right now.

I don't think he can, if he was any good as a game day coach they would never have gotten back into that game let alone win it. I cannot recall what changed after the first quarter other than West coast took control of the game. All i know is Bucks had nothing to offer as they slowly out scored us. And to this day all i ever see from him is put Moore in the forward line when we are a few goals down and a few mins to go or get a good start then play backwards defensive football and try to defend a lead.

Tried and failed, you left that bit out. Its a harsh game, no one cares who came second. And you wonder where Grundy gets the idea from that it is not the more important thing.

He can't IMO. He is flawed in how he drives the players. After the way Beams spoke about him on the way out there is no way he should have let him back that in. Two first rounders for that POS. Poor judgement because he is woke and thinks its all about positive feelings. Its a brutal game and the coaches who succeed tend to be brutal types. Clarko, Hardwick, Lethal, MM, were all tough, ruthless bastards on the field. They carried that into their coaching.

Really disrespectful to describe him as “woke.” You have a pr0n star as your username. What does that say about you?

No its not, he would take it as a badge of honor. Listen to the crap he and Eddie spout. Lol, your are getting desperate when you go the user name. You know who she is, what's it say about you?

Mate you’re just trying to be tough. You wouldn’t have the guts to say any of this crap to his face. You don’t think he should coach next year, fair enough, he’s had ten years. There is no justification for the disrespect you show towards him. That is trash.

Yes, and his best isn't good enough.
It almost was. Tommy Hafey’s wasn’t good enough either. Luck plays a major part at Collingwood.
The guy deserves respect, just because he was appointed by Eddie, doesn’t mean he deserves to be crucified with him. Maybe not the best analogy given it’s Good Friday tomorrow.

Almost finished the 'Making Their Mark' series in Amazon Prime. Hardwick often talks about Richmond's system. Talent alone won't win premierships, need systems that the team follows.
