Having the similar "mind is willing body is screaming at him to retire" situation so many had before him.

Retire a year early. Still gets paid.

Swans would have to include next year's payment in their salary cap too. So even if he plays 8 games at least it gives something back to the club.

But who knows.. maybe he will shed a bit of muscle and go into 2022 lean and have a big year

This injury doesn't change my mind that it has not been a good deal not saying It's been a bad deal cause of the off-field stuff I don't think you can it a football success, he had 2 opportunities to win a flag against Hawthorn & Western Bulldogs. that didn't work not all his fault but he had opportunities not sure if they were favourites against Hawks can't quiet remember odds would been close though as both great sides during that time but they were definitely big favs against the Dogs.

Freak contact injury. Shithouse timing but people need to calm down.

He was looking fitter than he has in years and impacting games as much as ever.
We're discussing a guy that's played 4 games since June 2019...

For context, 38 year old Shaun Burgoyne has played 27 games in that time frame.

You cannot deny Buddy's injuries in the last two years have been very concerning.

That's my point though. The soft tissue stuff was genuinely worrying but this is more of a freak occurrence unrelated to his age or fitness.

It might not be unrelated, propensity for any injury goes up over time as does recovery time generally.

The flow on effect is big too, he loses conditioning, and thus opens himself up to further risk when he tries to get that back with other injuries.

People that think injuries are unrelated are usually off the mark. There's a kinetic sequence and biomechanical chain where everything is connected and has a flow on effect. It's why injury prone players usually stay injury prone once it begins, there's a predisposition and then once activated it can pop up all over the body.

Yep. Simple fact is generally someone in their 20s is going to recover quicker than someone in their 30s.
