As you know we got this bloke, but is he any good?

A look at his stats sheet indicates he really started to find the pill in 2008, and I hear he is a good kick.

Do you Dees fans think you have let e decent to good player go?

Peace Ya'll.

Is Chris Johnson any good?

No.

He's soft, unaccountable, and has played 4-5 decent games in 5 years. He got alot of ball last year because he played loose unaccountable footy on a HBF in a backline where the ball came in a record number of times. There was one passage of play where there was nobody to kick forward to, so he and Wheatley played kick to kick and he literally racked up 3 marks and 4 kicks without moving. Inflates the stats abit!

He's got a decent kick, but that's about it. He's not quick, he's not strong, he hasnt proven to be versatile, he doesnt read the play particularly well, and his decision making is iffy. I dont think he'll do much at the Blues, as they have alot of young talent coming through now, and he'll struggle to get a game and have any impact. He's lucky to be on an AFL list IMO.

Always wanted to say this...
''there is a search function''

but no in all seriousness I'd say while he's not pathetic he's notg a great player.
Was going nowhere for the best part of 2-3 years at Melbourne and then last year he began to improve and racked up big numbers against Fremantle and Brisbane. He has good skills but isn't the best under pressure as he's soft as butter. Will never be a player which opposition teams will try to stop yet he can do some good things.
I am surprised Carlton looked at him as I don't see him getting a game in their midfield ahead of guys such as Judd, Stevens, Murphy, Gibbs, Grigg, Simpson or on a half back flank ahead of Scotland or Walker.
I would put in him on par with and compare him to Dennis Armfield.

Not sure what made him choose Carlton!

If he struggled at melbourne to get a game, he won't make it at Carlton with their young midfield.

Perhaps they are thinking of a backman as they are pretty hopless down there. But even still, a half decent forward would kill him. Only one thing going for him, has some run and can kick long. Otherwise, he'll play well with the bullants.

Will be intresting to see if he gets hardly any game time this year will he get the sooks and ask to be traded at seasons end, might get a game at west sydney in 4 years time.

His kicking skills meet the AFL standard

The rest of his abilities do not

Agree, If he can't get a game with us, you know he's not great:)

From our point of view, for what we got out of him and the promise he showed we will be able to replace him and have already done so. From Carlton's point of view he could be handy as he has a few years in him and seems to be growing in confidence but he won't set the world on fire and will probably amount to a depth player once you hit your straps. Kicking is ok but he isn't a corridor player which makes him a little one dimensional.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It's one of the better attributes of BigFooty is that opposition fans can share thoughts on the game, in harmony (sometimes).

I have not seen a great deal of Johnson, but what I have seen he doesn't appear overly quick nor special.

I think Visy was a major influence in him and a few others choosing carlton.

I'll go out on a limb here, with improved fitness by being at a club who know what they are doing, and some confidence from Ratten I think he will be highly effective. That said I don't see him being a long duration quality player, but he could really peak at the right time for Carlton and be a good part of finals campaign.

Will be a champion. Better than his old man.

Bloody Tony Shaw gets on tonight crapping on about " I can believe Melbourne getting rid off this bloke", What were they thinking". I know we are battling but is their any chance of people in the media doing any semblance of research. This comes hot on the heals of Addam Maric the ruckman on SEN. Dear me. For what its worth he will be ok at carlton in the system they play. He will get rrom to run and create and use his size and foot skills. Pee heart but will do ok

I think it's fair to say we were very pleased with his first performance given the negatives that Demons supporters have highlighted. Father-son selections might benefit from swapping clubs more than most, what with the pressure of history. We'll see if he sticks with it.

Was more impressed with him last night then i've ever been with him at the Dees. Didn't get much of the ball but also didn't waste a possesion. Hopefully the form doesn't continue :)

Did little to keep his spot at Melbourne but sometimes a change of clubs can make a guy wake up and work harder. Its all up to him.

He will be a better fit and a better player at Carlton IMO
Because they are more developed as a side than we are -
and he will have no trouble branching off to get cheap kicks.

Chris Johnson is a front runner, its in his character - which
is why he didnt want to slog out the hard yards with us and
they are players we dont need..

Even if Chris becomes a great player at Carlton, It wouldnt
mean that he wouldve amounted to much as a player for us.
