"Half-back/midfielder Chris Johnson, the son of former Demon Alan, has been delisted.

The club said in a statement: "Chris Johnson was offered a playing contract with the Melbourne Football Club for 2009. He and his management have since requested for Chris to be delisted, so that he could pursue other playing opportunities for the future."

I was really pissed off when I read this, he was just starting to show a bit of ball winning ability and good skills...which is something we are currently lacking... then he walks out on the club after trade period...

I could see both West Coast and Freo all over him in the PSD...

Go to hell CJ...and bring back his old man.. at least he has some passion for the club...

Firstly, there's already a thread on this talking about this.

Secondly, comparing CJ to Scott Thompson is like comparing shite to Scott Thompson. CJ would not have been in our team irrespective of whether he stayed on the list or not

In answer to the title, no, Thompson played a damn good season before he left and we knew he was going to be good. But he had his reasons to leave in that he really wanted to go home and in the end we got a solid deal for a player who was set to be a damn good midfielder, and has since done that.

CJ is leaving for more cash and a 2 year deal, thats fine as well, I'd probably leave and so would most people, but you have to wonder why there is such a discrepancy between what he can get and what we are willing to offer him. He might end up being nothing more than a dime a dozen half back flanker, but I liked his left foot, and thought he was getting fitter and learning to put his head over it. We haven't got anything for him, but there is no way he will ever be as good as Thompson.

The Scott Thompson comparison was more from the angle that, we put years into the bloke and see him walk out the door... just like Thompson...

I wasn't comparing them on a skill based level..

CJ could be a good Midfielder or flanker for another club... so holster those weapons boys!!

Seriously. If he could not get a gig in our team on a regular basis these past two season I don't think he's going to be making huge waves at another club. Best of luck to him but this deserves the big ol WHOOOOOPDEEEDOOOOOOO!

To put this into some sort of perspective at least it makes any decisions with rookies a little easier. I am not saying that Valenti is a shoe in for senior list but tbh he could be as useful for us up forward with one or two goals a game and a reasonable effort in the middle as what CJ could have been for us down back.

It will be interesting to see how we use the extra spot on the senior list now.

Against the grain of the opinions in this thread, I think Chris Johnson could be a player. Maybe not a Scott Thompson but I think with where our list is at he is a bad one to let go. I can only hope now he turns out to be a dud and gets delisted again next yr if anyone picks him up.

I don't think CJ is a huge loss to be honest.
We need to focus on out young guys such as Valenti, Buckey, Wono etc and we really dont need money hungry players who have little to no passion for our club.
If a player has passion then they will stay no matter what. clearly CJ's heart was not with the demons. We need players who are going to give it their all to help us bounce back.
Good luck to him though but i certainly do not think he will be another Scotty Thompson.

I am not overly happy that this has happened either, he could prove to be a decent pick up (for free) for another club but I think many of these posts are in context of the fact that the club put forward what it believed was fair and CJ knocked it back. The club didn't chose to let him go by the sounds of it but it did understand where CJ stood in the big picture with the team and wasn't prepared to budge.

Some indirect outcomes of this are that the club has sent a message to the playing group that it is serious about its direction and that no players will be given special treatment. What this means is that it hasn't set a precedent and it also shows the players that they have to earn a better contract. Whether they offered CJ a fair contract is debatable but I don't see why they would pick and chose how they approach each player on the list.

Yeh fair cop. I'm just worried he will blossom elsewhere, there really nothing worse. Like I say, here's to his future delisting if he gets picked up.:thumbsu: Bring on the draft already.

screw him, he's a sunk cost. Would have been great to get something for him, but alas we get nothing. If they don't want to be there, then they can get stuffed. But i can't promise i won't boo him and insult him next year.

Question, can we pick him up with the number 1 PSD pick like some other team did?
haha god i'd laugh if that happened, he'd be fuming!

im not too fussed tho... would have liked to keep him as i thought he was starting to hit his straps, but if a player dosn't want to play for the club then i don't care how good they are i don't want them.

Warnock, CJ, still some latent anger over Judd, i'm guessing that if the players are even half as angry as the supporters on here there will be a few reports next time we play Carlton

No f-ing way.

Thompson, as I recall, really came on as a footballer the season he left us. We got very little out of him cause he was injured a fair bit...But he was always highly rated too, a high quality footballer who just gave us the middle finger.

Chris Johnson doesn't have half the ability of Thompson nor does he have the physical presence.

I sometimes wonder how good our midfield would have been with McLean and Thompson in the engine room. Ah well, the sook wanted to go home to Adelaide, the 'centre of the universe', ho hum....

We Don't need pigs like this at MFC, absolute gutter trash. Didn't even have the balls to request a trade before trade week. Didn't think about the club or the supporters that have watched him grow for the last 5 years. Just thought of himself, so he could get a under the table deal (CARLTON). Self indulgent prick!

I swear to god someone needs to start a thread on the main board, 'Carlton & Buying a Premiership'

CJ defiantly wouldv'e lost alot of respect from his X- Teammates with this display... I really hope he never succeeds in his so called premiership dream, what was he thinking he's 23! Does he really think Melbourne won't be up and firing again by the time he was 25 and (in his prime!) Grinds my Gears, especially after the season we've just had. We need our boys to stick together 'brothers in arms'.

At least we know wherever this girl goes, he has eliminated any chance of a leadership position for any club in the AFL. Because what he did to MFC is like leaving a wounded soldier on the battle ground, WHY? "It was all getting abit to hard." And every player that plays against or with will have that mindset about him...

And to be honest I'm glad this weasel came out now, because when we are back playing finals we don't want weak minded superficial charades at the greatest club in the world!

THIS IS WHAT WE STAND FOR!

As for Chris Johnson, WHO GIVES A SH!T..................

I'm Richskee and thats my take!
