he should be safe as long as he understands that he has been of no use on the field for the nearly 2 years for the richmond fc - and that he should accept to take a drastic pay cut on a one year deal - to repay their faith and give both parties a realistic chance of gauging how much he is worth per year for his services.

if he thinks he should be getting the same sort of pay as before - and fails to see that we have spent a lot of money on a player which has been unable to give us anything in return - then we should trade him off

we have to way up the risks with him logically

Personally - i rate cogs - i like him and hope we can retain him, and we both be rewarded from that.

Fact is he came very close to retiring after his slip in the shower .

I was just referring to the fact his background is somewhat at odds with how much he puts into his footy on and off the field.

He grew up a suburban kid in a very well off family...not a knockabout country boy, or a hungry to succeed boy from a working class family.

But you wouldn't guess it from the hunger to succeed he's always displayed. It's always been refreshing to see...and goes to show that looks and background don't count half as much as things that a club can generally only discover over time - how much heart and determination a player has inside them.

LOL...I don't know if I'd go that far Magic, but watching the ups, downs and fan reactions to Gaspar's career certainly must have had some effect on the players from that era.

He's the classic example of how holding your club to ransom for more money is not necessarily good for anyone involved. Big expectations come with big contracts.

As a result I believe there was quite a bit of time spent in Kalgoorlie as a kid. Young Cogs also spent time in the undergound mines around WA in his later teens and had to earn his stripes in that school of hard knocks.

The old man gave him one hell of a good schooling in what it takes to make it in life. Thank god for that, because with out it there wouldn't be much hope of him coming back. At least we may still get some value - even if (god forbid) it is "only" as a project player.

Cheers WA...FWIW, I wasn't suggesting he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth or anything, just that without his football career, the family's wealth has provided plenty of avenues to a good life aside from football.

Many kids don't have that option and its a testament to Cog's character that he's stuck with his first choice (playing for the RFC) through a horror injury stretch.
