I have watched every special of his on Netflix. I found the way he 'used' his dead friend as a shield the most uncomfortable part of the experience. She was a wannabe comedian who idolised Chapelle's comedy, he offered her a seat at the table (despite describing her as a shit comedian at every opportunity). This is not the pure friendship you seem to think it was.

None of us can know the full nature of their friendship, or what the lens of celebrity does. Maybe they were friends, but he also rejected her chosen gender and described her as a shit comedian. She idolised Chapelle (and for good reason, his early comedy was groundbreaking and when he's not discussing trans people it's still quite good), so saying she wasn't 'offended' by his material doesn't really tell us anything either. I can only go by what I saw and heard during the specials. I like Chapelle by and large but I think he's wrong when it comes to trans issues, I think the backlash to his first (admittedly fairly benign) joke caused him to first go on the defensive, then attack. I think it's sad that he's shitting on a marginalised community and then accusing that same marginalised community of punching down on him, the world's most famous and richest comedian. And now he's hanging out with Elon Musk, a multi-billionaire troll. I think he should be better than that.

It’s weird to me that people were ok with Dave when he was making jokes about race but not ok if he has jokes about the LBGTIQ+ community.

I hope he lets it go though, or he’ll end up like Carlin towards the end, as in not being funny but just basically doing Ted talks.

Jeselnek, for me. For all his kudos as a shock comedian, he really does rely on language and twist.
Carr has writers for some of his TV work.

For such an "offensive" comic, his comments about what is acceptable to say is quite interesting. He says "I want my job to be difficult, I don't want it to be easy". Probably helps that he's really playing a character on stage too

It's comedy. Many people from minority groups are able to laugh at themselves, and I don't see why snowflakes should get in the way.

And that would be your issue. And I'd like to reiterate that if they were friends they probably hung shit on each like most comedians would. I don't believe her being trans would prevent that, or should prevent that.
