We have better middle order options than openers at the moment. Bring in Special K (avg 70 odd) and drop Siddle.

People think that moving Watson down the order will improve his bowling. He has a dodgy back and is basically limited to 10 overs per day regardless of where he bats.

Fifth bowlers rarely bowl a large volume of overs in any event. My knock on Watson is that his technique isn't sufficiently robust for opening. He us clearly in the best eleven, but I think you'd get more out of him facing an old ball.

Shows how important someone like Katich is. Only plays the balls he has to and nurdles it off the hip to get off strike.

Hussey is the only other bat that leaves well and make the bowlers bowl to him.

I'd agree with all that. For mine, we'd be a lot stronger with Watson at 6. I think he'd bowl more overs too.

I don't know who you'd open with - Hughes is a shadow of the batsman he once was.

Based on his first ball, not long. Whatever cracks were plastered over in Perth are gaping again.

Four years ago Jimmy Anderson looked like a shit truck; swing from arm medium pace blah. Liam Plunkett looked vastly superior in ODI's. Anderson looks fitter and a better technician with the ball.

Oh and Swann has demonstrated why you play a spinner in Melbourne. Every single, ****ing time.

Seriously this batting line up is as fragile as the recent talented West Indian Teams, who are all crap.

This is the worst top 6 ever:

Watson - ok
Hughes- poor
Ponting- confidence shattered
Clarke - overrated
Hussey - stood up, but we were gunning for his head before this series
Smith - Worst number 6 in history this is lunacy

A top class test side cannot come into a game with 4 out of the top 6 (exc watson and hussey) drastically out of form.

Drop clark for young kid can't remember his name, starts with K

Drop hughes for Marsh

Don't know about number 6, perhaps drop watson down for another opener.

Smith has to bowl to be in this team; on exposed form he is neither one of best 6 batsmen or one of the best 5 bowlers. A few pages I talked about the dilemma they have with him; shoddy batting technique but good instinct. His point of difference is the bowling - that is his ticket into this team.

Watson at 6 confers solidity.
