Very, very ordinary. Why on earth is Hauritz playing? Don't tell me, the 'rotation policy'...

Hauritz obviously has "those" compromising photos of somebody high up. Otherwise, our selectors think that there is something more dangerous about him than batsman all around the world. He's the Murray Bennett of off spinners.

Only the rain can save us now.

I think cricket will suffer here for a couple of reasons:

1. The Party is Over. No more domination of all and sundry and back-slapping circles. We'll start to see those who love the game separated from those who love watching Australia win.

2. The pitches are too flat. 15 overs of zing on day 1, flat as a tack until tea on day 3 and then it turns a bit until the end. Pitches are designed for Tests to go the distance and maximise revenue.

3. T/20. Most. Overated. Game. Ever. Nice as an exhibition or at domestic levels, but when it becomes an international staple it kills the traditional game.

4. Asian political dominance. Money talks, but I think there are a number of people uncomfortable with the idea that India run this game, not Australia and England.

5. ODI's. A good ODI is better than 99% of T20 games, but most are instantly forgettable.

If Ponting wants to continue playing Test cricket, its time for him to do a Steve Waugh and put away the Pull and Hook shots.

Just put two men back, bowl some short stuff and you'll be sure to get him hook, line and sinker every time now.

Couldn't disagree with you more Henry Jr. He's one of the best exponents of those shots to have played the game. It would be like telling Steve Waugh to put away the back foot square drive. Steve was never a great hooker or puller in the first place so it made sense for him. When Ponting is past playing those shots, it'll be time for him to retire. That time isn't when he gets caught on the boundary a few times, it's when he gets hit in the head a few times. Attacking shots of all kinds have an element of risk.... it's going to happen

Was one of the best....But time catches up with everyone in the end.

Reckon he gets caught 1 out of 3 behind square these days....He is late on the ball, hence, its going in the air.

Another game, another loss, another chance to blood youngsters down the drain....

I actually think it's been a weakness of his in the shorter forms of the game for some time. He's a naturally attacking player but seems to try to be overly attacking rather than just play his natural game in the 20 and 50 over formats. It's not that he's past playing those shots, it's that he not selecting the right ones to hit which he does when building a test innings. I didn't see tonights game so can't comment on that shot, but I've noticed that it's generally the ones that a too short to play the shot that bring him unstuck.

And Ponting has a rest...

I agree, HJ. Should he be rushed into the Test team though or do we go with Hilfenhaus, Bollenger, Johnson & Doherty/Smith/White?

I can't, under any circumstances, consider Hauritz for a test berth ever again.

Lets work on our fast bowling lineup first.

I would go Hilf and Starc to open the bowling.

I'm not rapt with Johnson's form but is a strike bowler when on song.

Starc to play the Stuart Clark line and length roll.

So, Hilf, Starc, Johnson and with Watson bowling 10 overs of his swing.

Would have to go with Doherty as the spinner. Can turn the ball (thats a win over Hauritz already) and can always bowl at the right handers pads ala Ashley Giles style to keep one end tight.

Interested in GH's opinion once he sobers up.....

Play the young guys - get rid of the old hacks and I and half of Aust will think cricket is ALIVE WITH BUMS ON SEATS:thumbsu:

At what point X do you reckon the ACB will start to panic with the sh!thouse crowds?

God only knows what the television ratings have been like. I'm sure all will pick up with the Ashes but they would want to.

It isnt dead, but it is in a long-term coma in australia

as someone mentioned, the Selectors dont have the balls to drop out of form players, and give players in-form from domestic cricket a go.

ITs amazing how the attack struggled once mcgrath and co retired, but several years later they select the players who everyone was calling for back then...

20/20 of the game injected some much needed funds and attention to the game, but at the expence of the longer games. new players are struggling to keep their concentration. even the older players are now starting to show.

Domestic Level was gaining some attention, T20 improved the income, but crowds were starting to steadily improve in Shield and Cup games, and then they go and "tweak" the formats, putting the game back 10 years.

Next year they are disbanding the state t20 comp for an indian style premier league. sure, great for the CA coffers, however, the state teams are going to lose large amounts of income as a result.

Reckon if the 1st Test has poor crowds (and they only have 18 days to really push it) the authorities will be running around in circles RED FACED.

Play the young guys and there will be much better attendances.

Is anyone aware what the bookings are like for the Boxing day test??

I played Cricket for years and loved the game.........but have lost interest almost entirely. I once dreaded the Windies touring in the 80's as pain would undoubtly be inflicted on the players and supporters.......but I looked forward to the series none the less. The players really had a crack, on both sides. The contest meant something.

Saturation is the problem for mine. A one-day series here, a one off test there and throw in a couple of T/20 games before heading off to another country to do it all again. None of the results mean anything......with the only exception now being the Ashes. Compare the results of these meaningless crickets series to winning an AFL flag.........the outpouring of joy and celebration is quite remarkable and great to be a part of.

Personally, I could not care less if Australia lost a One-day / T20 series in Sri Lanka because, before you blink they will be playing another series against another nation somewhere else on the globe. The fact that I dont care wether Aust. wins or loses concerns me.

As for T20 I gave it a go but dont like it. Maybe as previously posted it is a generational change we are witnessing. I much prefer 50 overs games where you can still build an innings or as a bowler think a batsman out. I want to feel the love again but a lot will have to change for mine.

I have decided to give domestic cricket some support this year.

Another nail in the coffin it would seem...

RUNAWAY Pakistani wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider has revealed he was asked to fix the fourth and fifth one-dayers against South Africa by an illegal bookmaker, claims that shatter cricket's hopes of being rid of corruption.

I love the game, still play it, but this just depresses me.

You just have to look at clubs such as mine to see that kids just aren't playing the game anymore for a number of reasons.

We have NO juniors at our club anymore, going from 5 senior and 3 junior sides plus a woman's side in the early 90's to 3 senior sides propped up by the fact that our club is near a university and attracts a steady stream of decent yet not overly committed Indian students who hang around for a season or two.

I would have struggled to get a game in the 4ths back then but now play 1st/2nds.

Adults are losing interest in the game for all the reasons everyone else has mentioned and that flows on to them not encouraging thier kids to take up the game.

The fish rots from the head.

The ICC needs a complete overhaul starting with wresting some power from the Asian nations.

Sadly this will not happen in the near future as they have a voting block that can virtually veto anything.

As much as I dislike the guy, John Howard would have been the PERFECT person to have heading the ICC and stamping out match fixing and sorting out rostering of matches before die-hard cricket lovers like many of us simply lose faith and give up on the game.

Headlines like this would have caused a storm of controversy in the past but now cause barely a ripple. People almost expect it.

Interesting watching the kids at Milo Cricket. Totally different level of engagement to Aus-Kick. Then, as soon as it's finished, everyone kicks the footy around.

What a ridiculous suggestion Henry...the guy clearly is in form. Automatically with the selectors that rules him out. Gotta persist with underperfomers you know :D

Ronald would have to be a chance for a spot for the First Test at the Gabba.

Leading run scorer for the year.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ausdo...er.html?class=4;host=2;id=2010/11;type=season

He also keeps it tight with his stump to stump bowling.

Use Marcus North as the spinner.

No room for three allrounders in the team. Clearly in form with the bat, but has to bat 7 or 8 in tests. Playing North primarily for his bowling is a joke (which is essentially what they've been doing given his batting stats). Is Haddin a good enough batsman for 6??... that's the question. Personally, they need to find an opener and drop Watson down to 6. No room for Ronald then until Watson breaks down.

Fair points.

In that case, Hussey gets the ass for Ronald...

I'd just like to see them pick a team based on current form. Seems the reward these days for domestic form is a CA contract and a spot in the PM's 11 instead of pressing for a test spot.

There would be more than one change if I was a selector.
