It has been a while since we had someone debut at #3. Ponting debuted at 6 IIRC.

He has certainly been next in line for while, but with none of the hype that accompanied Hughes' entry into Test cricket.

Langer against the Windies in 93. I was there all four days of that test. Langer got the absolute stuffing knocked out of him by Ambrose, Walsh & Bishop in the gloom of the first day. Amazing test. Shame about the result.

The kid looked good today. Nice organised batsman. Love his backfoot play, the way he defended, soft hands. Picks up the line well. How Smith has played before him is beyond me...

Another pathetic performance by Clarke.

You can visibly see Watson's concentration wane too. The poms had a nice little plan happening for him too; Watson literally played into their hands.

Some positives today, but still a paper thin batting line-up and a bowling attack that, on paper, has about as much penetration as a Eunuch.

Definitely not a bowler short, Grizz. We went with 5 specialist bowlers and an all-rounder in Watson.

The problem is that only two of those can produce a devastating spell (Siddle and MJ) but don't do it often enough. The rest are unproven or just plain plodders.

Wees gunna get caned agen. Can still get $1.65 on England. Easy money.
