If I recall, Lawson has a very different theory on how fast bowlers should be managed. No cotton wool for him but hard work. Push through the aches and pains and that makes them more resilient is his mantra. Interesting.

Certainly the theory that served Glenn McGrath well; some guys need the work kept up to them. Probably fine at 25, not sure at 18.

Pattinson and Cummins are very young as test bowlers go. Cummins had six first class games before his first test so he has limited experience of 25+ overs a day at the top level. he will need managing over the next 2-3 years. In a biomechanical sense it is a dreadfully unnatural set of movements and their back is the biggest concern. The number of 17 year olds that turn up at my clinic in April with stress fractures from bowling in club cricket is still high; you can usually tell them what arm they bowl with from the scan too. Very specific.

And the line CA are trotting about Pattinson's heel is rubbish. They either knew or should have known. MRI or nuclear medicine would have been very clear.

Now Watson re-injures his calf! FFS.

I think it was Lawson again that said that why hasn't the medical team been turned over since the Argus report?

Be interesting to look at the Poms and Saffers to see how many of their quicks have broken down over the past two years.

Perhaps Australia's physio, Alex Kountouris, should change his name to Alex KOLOKOTRONIS!

???? Our players can't even make it through rehab without getting injured!

It's incredible really. Although it might be a blessing in disguise and give us the opportunity to try a few players out. Although at this rate of attrition, the quick from the Carnegie Redbacks might get a game soon.

I hear Nesbit is warming up as we speak.... :D

He sure is. There's a double just begging there. Highest ODI score too if he keeps his head.

And he got there. Love how a man ran onto the ground with a bunch of flowers for him. Only in India.

Nothing like a spanking of the Kiwi's to breathe some life back into Cricket.

This will be done by the end of Sunday.

They should bring the Big Bash forward to starve off the bordom.

Pattinson certainly looks quicker than the radar gun reveals. He was getting some lovely shape on the ball too. Best I've seen Siddle bowl in years too.

Yep. You'd think that would be it for a while.

Bowling a McGrath like line today for the most part. Late Swing and seam too. The ball that got Ryder/Cosgrove/Lehmann was a doozy!

It seems churlish to complain after we've got the opposition out for 150, but gee, Starc's bowling today.... well it reminded me of the comment someone made here about being Mitchell Johnson with more potential. Both wickets he took said more about NZ than us.

Lyon bowled tightly when given his limited opportunities, & that may be the most controlled I've seen Siddle bowl since the first innings at the Gabba last year.

The Pattinson ball that got McCullum was fantastic. Beautiful shape.

Ah, but sometimes you need someone to bowl the pies to weed some of the batsman out.

How many wickets did McGill get from full tosses and long hops?

Langers made the observation me, and I think he's right, that Starc's whole action looks a little mechanical and manufactured. Sure he swings it, but it's all a little unnatural. And he seems to struggle with his line and length a bit.

I think Clarke's captaincy is also very good. His field placings, the way he rotates his bowlers, indeed he seems to have a feeling for how the game is unfolding.

McDermott is apparently some sort fo bowling coach as he has our bowlers taking wickets and they can all swing the thing, including Siddle.

Have you switched from your 'Pattinson's not ready' position? He looks like taking a bag of wickets every time he bowls of late . . .

If Watson does not make it to the first Indian test does Hughes make way for Ed Cowan?

Well, I can't argue with his results. From what I saw of him in Shield and, to an extent, in the first innings at the Gabba, he didn't look ready. But only performance is reality, and he's performed the lact couple of times he's gone out to bowl. Perhaps, I hope, a little like Warney when he first played.

Thought he bowled really well today. He does let the pressure drop though, but that will come with experience.

Thats my point exactly and that is hard to debate.

Viv averaged 50.23 in 121 tests, and 47.00 in ODIs.

Ponting 156 tests at 52.

So what is the difference? and this is the debate

The bowling attacks faced by Sir Viv were much stronger (by country) than what Ponting faced. Do we want to elaborate on this? the quality of bowling worldwide has been shit for sometime, its a pleasure to see Dale Steyn power in cause he is good, apart from mcgrath there have not been many 'good' fast bowlers in comparison to the 1980s. As i say, this is a debate and my opinion, for me you cannot judge who is the best without thinking about who they play for and the quality of the bowling during that decade/ time period.
The bowlers were better back then but they were on Vivs side.He didn't have to face them.
Apart from Lillee there were only pie throwers.Your argument is flawed.

Interested on peoples thoughts on the possibility of going back to uncovered pitches.

I have no issue if both teams don't score more than 200 per innings. Plus, it would give us younger generation an insight into how great the Don really was.

Now that we have helmets, rib protectors, better pads and gloves, I think it would be back the evenness of bat vs ball.

After all, Test matches are meant to be exactly that.... a Test of ones abilities.
