Whats that about 1 swallow not making a summer???...

No need to kill off the "Is Cricket 'Dead' Thread" at all....

Watching Clarke and North....can I have that 30 minutes back???

We are pathetic...both these teams ranked 5th and 6th in the world??? Watch out for Ireland and The Netherlands....

Thats a bit harsh Mess. Did 8 times better than North...

Michael Clarke, you suck.

Marcus North, you suck big time. And have photos.

We hang onto batsmen for far too long. North struggles for games on end then pulls a ton out and if Clarke is 100% fit I'll buy a Bombers membership. I'd rather give Khawaja a chance.

Unfortunately, Aus Cricket is more about Marketing then results these days.

You only have to look at the line-up to see what i mean, only siddle and doherty are "non-marketable" and suprise suprise, they are the two who consistently get dropped.

Expect Hauritz (a former medium pacer who couldnt cut (no pun intended) it) and Bollinger (the blonde-bombshell just like lee who cant hit the pitch) to be brought into the side.

Some very average batting from the Australian middle order today.

Ponting's dismissal was shocking. Clark sloppy. North's predictable, given his technique.

On a positive note, Hussey was positive and decisive from the moment he went out to bat.

For my money, their mental game is way off, and has been for sometime.

By the way, I was talking to a Carlton player today who had some interesting (positive) things to say about Peter Siddle, who had been training with that cheating corporate plaything of a club. But more on that later.

Anyone else watching the Channel 9 tea break entertainment?

Oh my...

I've seen 3 overs, mate.

Listening to it in the car while ferrying kids around today - enjoyed that.

Cricket on the radio is great value. I've always enjoyed it. The damn Foxtel delay is the only reason I don't turn off the Ch9 drivel.

Here's a question to the media savvy:

I've been of the belief that cricket is very much a television sport, especially test matches. You know, pretty much because of the time that a game takes. I think the telecast of it is very important to its popularity and sustained success.

Well, I think channel 9 has been descending into cliched 'jobs for the boys' crap for some years now. In short: it's commentary program (the container around the event, if you like) is crap and the way it supports the cricket is garbage. For example: first test opening day is on a Thursday, most of us are at work, where's the highlight package late at night for those of us who work? There 'aint.

So, Langers, I'm of the belief that Channel 9 has an important role to play in promoting cricket, both through its content and programming, and currently it's woeful, what are your thoughts?

Cricket, Golf, Baseball, Tennis just to name a few.

Believe that Basketball, AFL, Soccer and NFL are sports you go to watch live.

If you can't see the pill, its hard to follow the sport...

Gee our bowling lacks zip. Not convinced by some of the tactics and field positions out there. In saying that, the English openers have played very well.

I'm fed up with Ponting Griz.

His field placings are a disgrace.... All you have to do is hit a four and immediately the man is placed back on the boundary. Singles galore....

Johnson needs to be dropped. Struggles to even hit the pitch sometimes. You get more consistency in grade cricket.

Johnson is verging on sacred cow territory right now; he'll be kept around just in case he does something.

In: Bollinger, Khawaja
Out: Johnson, Clarke

If England set us 220-240 in about 60-65 overs it could get very uncomfortable.

Pontings go to go..

Johnson, Clarke, North can not play in the 2nd Test, There are way too many pasangers in this Aust side its just not funny anymore...:(

North deserves his place for the moment. His century against India in the second test in Bengaluru (which i was lucky enough to go to) was pretty impressive.
should persist with Clarke too.
with Bollinger fit and ready to go, Johnson could be in strife.

It wasn't our finest day.

The questions surrounding Ponting's captaincy just won't go away.

Johnson looks like crap. Hilfy toils hard but I can't see him taking bags of wickets in Australia. Doherty hit a length and was reasonably consistent, but lordy, I can see why his first class figures are fairly average. There 'aint much there to trouble good batsmen.

The rebuilding has to start with the selectors and the coaches.

If Clarke was fit he would of made more runs and had North made runs we would of had a big enough lead in the 1st innings that could of helped out our bowlers.
Johnson and Clarke have been my 2 fave players for a very long time now, but i have to wonder why they are still in the side when both are not contributing anything..

How ever much the commentators want to bleat that Carke is fit, he 'aint. Plain to see. Shouldn't be playing this test purely on those grounds.

Willi, North's technique worries me. Our 'makeshift' openers do too. Yeah, i know they average 50+ but I just can't see them hitting big partnerships. They look makeshift. I'd love Watson at 6....

2nd test outs: Johnson, Clarke, North
2nd test ins: Huges, White, Bollinger..

Wont happen though because the selectors are as blind as Stevie Wonder..........

I don't know if cricket is dead, but the Australian team certainly is. Pathetic session this morning. Bowling, fielding, all those sort of things was way below acceptable.

Cricket isn't dead. Test cricket is still very well supported. What a great Test this has been so far.

One day cricket is dead though. it has been dying for years now.

There will be some young Aussie supporters who are being exposed to Australia not being the global force they once were for the very first time. it will be interesting to see how they react to that.

we are having a discussion (with some abuse) about when the Poms will declare...

if I was in charge, I would declare after the first hour after lunch around 50 overs to go, with about 260+ runs on the board....

Scotty reckons no way, want 300+ runs with only 40 overs left....

My only thought about his model is that we will close up shop immediately and play for a draw, which in theory will reduce the chance for an English win....

I mean, the English will want to try and win, right?
