Couldn't agree more. It's why I always have a bit of a chuckle when his name is tossed around as a potential Australian captain. I think he's a terrific cricketer who has found his place as a T20/50 over Australian player & leading Shield captain and player, but he's not a top line test batsman.

He's got the skill and strength of mind to overcome top class bowling on a flat deck, but you need the foundations of technique and footwork when the conditions favour the bowler.

Agreed. Has his bowling degenerated to the the point that his straight leg breaks are not an option?

Who knows?... You just don't see his bowling these days, so it's impossible to make a judgement. It's like someone got in his ear and said something along the lines of "Mate, you're never going to be the next Shane Warne. Your best chance of playing for Australia is to concentrate on your batting".

It's a shame really. If he could have developed his bowling in the mould of a Tiger O'Reilly/Anil Kumble fast top spinner and combined that with his batting, he could have been a pretty handy Test player.

Terrific game last night. Once England saw off the leggy they looked in the box seat. Speaking of spinners: Afridi's bowling looks quite dangerous, certainly compared to what it was.

Wonderful result.

I may or may not have given a fine rendition of "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" when the in-laws turned up this evening....

England have conceded 327 to Ireland and 292 to the Netherlands. No way they make the quarters from that group surely.

You'd think not. Anyone seen the new spinner from South Africa?

Afridi has been doing quick, straight leggies for 10 years now and having great success.

He looks ok. Fast action in the Qadir/Mustaq mould..... Hard to pick his wrong-un out of the hand I think.

Kumble - 619 test wickets at 29.65
O'Reilly - 144 test wickets at 22.59

Nah, Afridi has found some spin in recent years. He looks a much better spinner to me these days.

That was quite a catch Smith held onto.

Excellent, wasn't it.

His enthusiasm is a breath of fresh air. Others (D Hussey) have lifted to match him.

What a slow pitch though.

You'd think the Windies woud beat England and likely toss them out of the Cup. Now, wouldn't that be sweet?

Gee, Steyn raced through the Indian lower order like a Thai super bug through the intestinal region.
