When you're talking about the true 'star' midfielders, then you're talking about people like Judd, Kerr, Cousins, Hayes, Goodwin... Wells is definately not in that class.

Going by your own criteria:
Simpson - 420 poss, 11 goals
Wells - 407 poss, 11 goals
All this with Simpson having played only half the amount of games of Wells.
Simpson >> Wells

Not to say Wells isn't a very good player, he has star potential, but going by the way some go on about him, you'd think he was elite class already. Dreafully overrated.
I'd buy all of that except the comparison around here has often been Wells and Simpson and I'd argue that Simpson had a better game than Wells tonight. North looked ordinary tonight, as we did against Adelaide. Both teams have the goods. Carlton looked good tonight, as they would. :thumbsu:

He isn't overrated to put him that far up but he still overrated in the way that he hasn't really done much in his career. Needs to step up this season.

How can he be overrated when no one rates him?

Idiots.

Here's a picture of Wells in action. :)

That is all absolute rubbish.I can't recall one player other than Wayne Carey who was a 'star' at the age of 21.

Lance Whitnall at 20 years of age, in 2000, had an AA year where he booted 70 goals and took 208 marks. The previous year he booted 55 IIRC - people back then were on his bandwagon.

Every year for the past 3 people have said he needs to step up this season and so far has failed to deliver. He has enormous talent and skill but only plays about 4 good games a year and goes walk about for the rest.He is no doubt hugely overated

Will be an excellent footballer once he gets to utilise his strengths which is kicking, ball carrying and evasion. Sometimes it's hard to work out what Laidley is trying to do with him. Have to let him run and use his ball skills., Play him defensively and you may as well not have him at all.

Oh and I have to laugh at the Carlton fans jumping in LR&C. Live it up Blooz guyz, you busted your ass against a side that played with you and then played like sh1t for half a game and even with finky forty fev kickin' 8 STILL only just got home. Lorng lorng year ahead for the cheats. :thumbsu:

Grossly grossly overrated.

Just an average player. No doubt he has talent to burn, but so did Clive Waterhouse.

Until he pulls his finger out of his ass and starts performing he will be an average player.
Just an average player?

He is definately better than Walker, going by every year, every stat, EVERYTHING.

Until Walker beats Wells in a meaningful stat (besides Clangers), than he will be an average player.

Correct?

Walker: more marks, contested marks and contested possessions. Also, Walker's defender, so can't compare their stats.

Walker had much more of an impact last night.

Wells is rated much higher by the general football community than Walker.

Therefore, there is more expectations on him. Wells has not lived up to this expectation. Until he does, he is nothing more than average.

Wells: More possies, more gials, more clearances, more tackles, more 1 percenters, more first possesions, more inside 50's, more bounces, more hit outs, heck for a defender Walker nearly gets r*ped by Wells for rebound 50's.

Oh and Walker beats Wells for contested marks by 0.1.

Wells averages 0.3 contested marks per 3.6 marks, Walker averages 0.4 contested marks per 5.4 marks, funny yeah.

ALL while being tagged by the best tagger on the other team.

ALL while no one rating him besides the Roo fans.

ALL while Walker gets free disposals off a HBF.

Walker is definately overrated.

Stats are irrelevant when comparing two players unless there is a huge margin. If the difference is minimal, it has no bearing to the argument.

Here's a better comparision for you which I think is a better match-up: Simpson vs Wells.

Walker had a better game? what did he do? he had alot of poor kicks and had one more touch than Wells, but he was playing off a hbf free while Scotland was tagging Wells for the entire match.

For a pick 2, both have expectations, you guys say he is the next Kouta, going no that, he has done absolutely nothing, going by anything, he's done **** all.

PS: Walker leads Wells in one category by ALOT, Clangers.

Until Simpson gets tagged heavily, there is no point.

Like comparing Goddard and Wells last year, one runs free the other gets crucified.

By the way, I am not saying Wells played well, all I'm saying is that he gets slammed more than any other player, given hes 22 and finished top 5 in the Roos BnF 2/4 years while playing injured, I think hes done alright.

Both have huge expectations, right?

So if both are similar, than both are overrated.

Cant say one is and the other isnt, or are we all saying that Wells has far more talent than Walker?
