Without pretending I know too much about the people who organised the petition, I'd say they could stand some support. They have started a ripple which could turn into a groundswell, if people power were to be behind them. It seems to me that the instigators of the petition aren't power hungry, just disappointed with what's transpired. They aren't saying, "I want to be president", just who shouldn't be.
Time is shorter than you probably think. Only two games to go and once the season's over your supporters will be lost to the four winds until next year. You should get as many supporters as you can to stand up and be counted, not just with a vote. Get involved, but do it soon. Help start a rudimentary newsletter, to gee people up and to keep them informed over the period up to the Extraordinary meeting.
P.S. Sorry about all the mangled metaphors. I find myself surprisingly fired up about this topic. I really hate the thought of Carlton going the way of Fitzroy. That's how serious I think this situation is.
