Is Fraser finished?

Re: is Fraser Finshed?

Unless Wood does something good in the 2's, it's far too early to be dropping Fraser and weakening our struggling ruck department further by playing Dawes or Brown in the ruck.

Wood played a Good Game Today in the VFL:thumbsu:

This season he has been Terrible. Kicking is way off and his Rucking well we all know what that is Like.

He's Injuries have looked to Destroyed his Body and Can't do what he use to do.

Think we should look at Trading Josh at seasons End.
are you kidding me, he should of been traded years ago. sick of excuses being made for him,he probably on about 400k

400k you are aware that's only above average now yeah?

It's time that supporters of Josh realise that he cannot play as a forward, he is unable to take a contested mark (watch the Hawthorn game to see he has no idea when going for a contested over head mark) he is quick for a ruckman but not as a forward one goal in 4 games is not good enough.
While he is in the team the developement of our young talls are being hindered

Also we might as well ruck l brown as a back up ruckman at least he has some aggression

Comparing Jolly and Fraser as equals given equal game time is an absolute joke.

Fraser looks like an origami bird jumping out of a glue puddle, Jolly is able to physically impose himself, kick some needed goals and run out of the centre Nic Nait style with the ball.

Wood has definitely got to get a go now on the back of this form.

Is it time for Fraser to make way for Wood ?

I remember late last year after we had signed Jolly i read an article in a few newspapers saying that Collingwood had told Josh Fraser that the Pies would go with a Jolly/Wood ruck combination in 2010 onwards.

The pies believed that they had to address our ruck issues if we were going to win a flag.
Fraser was told that he would be used alot more up forward and would only ruck if say wood or jolly got injured.
Fraser's knee was a problem and he was told that he would have to be managed for the remainder of his career. This is why we recruited Darren Jolly.

Well only 4 weeks in and Josh has hardly made a dent in our side.
He has played very average footy,no use up forward can't take a big grab
and his backup ruck work is below par.

Admmitedly Wood has been injured but he should be ready to play at top level soon.I see him as young ruckman who should be playing every week helping and learning from Jolly.i really hope that we play him reguarly so he gets used to top level it would be shameful to have our young ruck prospect playing reserves footy all the time.No wonder some younger players get disolutioned, and lose confidence.
These guys are our future and if we don't see them play senior footy how can we expect to see them gain confidence and grow into their respective
roles as top level AFL players.

Chris Dawes,Ben Reid, nathan Brown,John Anthony should be playing regular AFL games.
All these guys have now been at the club for 4-5 years, when are we going to see them develop? Goldy is another who has lost form

So is it time for fraser to step down and only be used sparingly,Leigh brown should also only be used if injuries occurr,Lockyer the same and Obree has made way.Let the kids play they are our future who will finally take us to glory not the old hacks Malty keeps presevering with.

Your thoughts!

Re: Is it time for Fraser to make way for Wood ?

Seeing how much Sidey, Beams and Wellingham have improved, it would be silly to not give some of the others game time. Most specifically: Dawes and Wood, as they are the future of the club and are both ready for senior games. The fact that Fraiser and Brown have done so little recently makes this idea a great one.

Re: Is it time for Fraser to make way for Wood ?

Yes, I do think Fraser is holding players like Wood and Dawes back as he has not Dominated Game for a few years and I doubt he ever will and plus you never know when his body will finally go.

Need kids to have a go like Wood and Dawes who could Dominate a Game

Re: Is it time for Fraser to make way for Wood ?

To my mind, Fraser has to keep his spot this week. The Bombers have 2 strong ruckmen in Hille and Ryder, so we need back-up for Jolly and we know that Anvil Brown won't cut the mustard realistically. If Dawes comes in (as we mostly agree he should), it should be at Leigh Brown's expense, not Josh Fraser's.

Going forward I still think there's a place for Josh on our forward line as per the oroginal plan, and we can still play Jolly and Dawes in the ruck without unbalancing the side.

Josh just needs to find some form and confidence, and he is a favourite son of Collingwood, so the selectors are going to think long and hard before deciding to drop him.

Re: Is it time for Fraser to make way for Wood ?

I say put Fraser in the vfl so he can find some form, like J.A.
Bring Wood in for him.

Take out Leigh Brown, and bring in Dawes- see how he goes.

Take out Toovey and bring in Goldsack.

You are all aware Wood has only just returned from injury?

Woody's not ready yet. Heard he needed the run in the VFL on the weekend, so he'll have to re-gain his match fitness before any talk of promotion.

Longer term though, I agree: Wood must be brought into the team.

Re: Is it time for Fraser to make way for Wood ?

I'd actually heard the opposite, that because it was only a finger (thumb?) injury he's been running and training the whole time and should be ready to play.

To the overall point, though; yes, Fraser's time is up. A three tall forward line of Dawes, Anthony and Cloke could be devastating and Wood needs to play in the ruck. Both Ben Reid and Nathan Brown need to get regular games this year as Presti will not likely play beyond 2011.

We'll probably begin to phase Lockyer out and Macaffer in for a permanent role, and Cheesy should see if he can get a gig with the VFL side in an assistant coaching role.

Re: Is it time for Fraser to make way for Wood ?

Without a dramatic form reversal he would have to be running around in the magoos before too long.

His main attribute as an onballer was his movement and link up play around the ground; as a forward his main weaknesses are that he cannot take a contested mark, gets brushed aside too easily and his kicking accuracy appears to have deserted him (along with everyone else, sheesh).

We desperately need a tall KP forward who can and will kick goals to put their hand up over the next month or so (whether that be Dawes, Travis finds a straight boot, Anthony returns to some decent form, Rusling bathes at Lourdes and Mick finally plays him forward or, from somewhere else -Brown/Ried/Shae/anybody).

True, Fraser stays. :) for now.

I've seen this call posted heaps over the last week and it still baffles me. Toovey is in the side because he plays a shutdown defensive role on the oppositions small forwards. He hasn't been great (although hardly terrible either) but he Shaw and O'Brien are the only players that can play this role in the side. Can you see Goldsack on Akermanis or Schneider?? Because if Goldsack took Tooveys role thats who he'd be playing on. No offence to Goldsack but he isn't suited to this type of opponent - and if he was put on them he'd get schooled. The only realistic alternative to Toovey would be Shaw but we'd lose too much run off the HBF for it to be viable.

Re: Is it time for Fraser to make way for Wood ?

No doubt Fraser is on the edge.
Who knows what happens this week, but if he doesn't at least improve very soon I think we will see Wood in.

The only thing that is truly important atm is that Dawes gets a call up.
And I think Barham could play a Toovey type role. We are lacking in this department, and his pace/tackling would be wasted in any other position.

I am personally on the bandwagon of playing Jolly as a lone ruck with a chop out from one of Leroy or Dawes, neither of which will offer any less as a chop out ruck then Fraser has.

I think Jolly will benifit from the extra gametime and the side structure will benifit from not carrying 2 fairly ineffective "utility" type talls. In Fraser and Brown. Brown plays the key post roles better and as such gets the nod over Fraser.

Precisely :thumbsu: Dawes in for Leroy and take your pick for Frasers position.

In my mind, Fraser has been finished for a long while.

To me, he lacks any sort of body on body strength and contributes very little around the ground.

I do realise that he shouldered our ruck division for near on 10 years, but that division has been seriously poor in that 10 years.

He has absolutely no ability in disposing the ball - this week he had 36%, and against Melbourne - 17% - something like that anyway. He contributes so very little around the ground, and is more or less preventing the development of players like Wood (yes I know he is injured - but if he remains in the side).

We put an incredible faith in Wood, recruiting him with the pick that Melbourne got Grimes for. Now we should back him on the field with game time.

Unless Fraser can do something like he did in the 2002 GF up forward, he has no real place.

I would personally like to see Josh play a whole game in the forward line. He has a decent mark and a strait kick. He can't be any worse than John Anthony and he will draw a main defender (due to his size) and free up Cloke. If he doesn't start performing or doesn't look like his going to make it as a forward , bring in Wood. Let Josh work for his spot in the senior side like the rest of talented bunch that arn't getting a game. e.g GOLDSACK why arn't you playing instead of toovey. I Love Toovey but like Goldsack more.

I agree with everything but the Goldsack for Toovey debate. Toovey is a much better spoiler and shut down player IMO
