Is GWS's premiership window about to close?

Gws. Where talent goes to die
They have played in 4 consecutive finals series, despite injuries. You'd think they are coming off back to back spoons.

They been rubbish this year, no dobt. Pretty abnormal season though.

Worth noting the age profile of the Giants is much closer to Fremantle than Richmond. It is still a young list, and has the consistency of a young list. The last 3 years due to injury it has been the same, we have consistently ran out very young sides. Difference of this year compared to last is that the experienced stars were either injured or out of form and couldnt get them home this year.
Most weeks the Giants have ran out 4 or 5 first or second year players. Even guys like Finlayson and Perryman have only just cracked 50 games in the last couple weeks. Young players miss roles, have bad weeks and sides with lots of young players are generally inconsistent. The difference is due to all the top end talent most dont view the Giants as a young side. (and at full strength their best 22 isn't young, but the squad is)

The Giants don't need more talent they need to develop and bring in players who will do the hard work, the selfless acts, the 1%ers that don't get noticed except by real football people.
I feel like they actually do have a few guys like this... Sam Reid, Daniel Loyd, De Boer. Daniels and Perryman are good tough competitors etc.

So imo they do have a decent mix of foot soldiers in with the elite level talent. Which has to point the finger at the coaching.

If asked I could name De Boer and maybe Toby Green as hard players, Mumford is another but he is cooked.

In the draft they should be targeting physically and mentally tough players. A Beau Waters type or two. They have all the skill they need, they just don't have the desire and selfless, team first attitude.

combined, your age profile + games played is closer to richmond than freo

Closed window? Anyone who has said yes to that in this thread is an out and out idiot.
Our midfield ages on the weekend:

26
26
25
24
21
20

Then We have young kids coming through like Caldwell, Hately and Greene.

Our 3 key forwards are 27, 24 and 20.

Stop with the uneducated rubbish. Anyone who actually pays any attention knows that they have deliberately spread the age profile. Thus ensuring that our window will be open for a long time now.
Your windows broken

Have to think fall out of this must be huge, if they think they can bounce back they will need to find a ruckman and will need to give up a fair bit to make room in the cap.

For this year?

Window slammed shut and the double glazing is going in on Monday.

...but they have the base to work with there - why on earth did they re-sign Leon Cameron though? - he’ll be gone mid next year if they have a rough start - the media will be licking their lips!

GWS were never any good.

Only got 13 wins last year and met teams at the right time.

They were uncompetitive against the Hawks in that snow game, smashed by the Bulldogs late in the season.

Great win against the Bulldogs in the EF, but lucky to run into a Brisbane side that made the top two on the back of an easy draw and some close games going their way, did everything in their power to throw away the PF against Collingwood, one of the worst GF performances of all time (not including Tex Walker lol).

I didn't expect them to get more than 13 wins in a 22 games season this year.

And let's stop heaping praise on their list. They've never achieved anything and only look like a good team in bursts. So what? A lot of teams do that and achieve more (Bulldogs 2016).

Cant wait to see what their membership numbers will be like when they tumble down to the bottom of the ladder.

The membership numbers and attendances for the Suns and GWS are all just fantasy almost plucked out of thin air anyway. They are incredible financial drains on the competition.

Beaten, actually flogged!, by three of the bottom four teams, that's a damning stat.

Assembled the best list ever seen but it seems to now be in decline. Ship jumpers will be interesting see this off season and not much of a draft hand, at this stage anyway.

What I think our best 22 next year looks like:
Ash Davis Haynes
Williams Taylor Corr
Whitfield Cogs Kelly
Daniels Cameron Greene
Lloyd HH Hill
Briggs Hopper Taranto

Finlayson Green Perryman Ward

Close: Caldwell, Buckley, Idun, Hately, Flynn, Cumming, Riccardi, XOH, Keeffe, DeBoer

Obviously we’ll lose two or three - I’m tipping Corr, Hately, and maybe Williams. We’ll get some decent picks in return - maybe use to trade in a ruckman.

Just 2 players who are 30 in best 22. Great spread of age.

I hope everyone keeps talking about a window being shut - that will only drive them more.

All in all I think the list looks great. I think a part of the problem this year was cumulative fatigue. They’ve had a huge injury list over the last four years and still won finals. That’s bloody good considering they are a relatively young midfield. It showed this year when they thought they’d conserve energy and coast against Sydney, North and Adelaide.
Hopefully they get a good rest in the offseason and they’ll come back strong.

Just quietly, with Hill and Daniels in the forward line we have two bloody exciting little fellas to watch for the next ten years.
If they need people to be saying their window is shut on a forum site or in the press to motivate them, we'll there lays their problem.

They haven't even missed the finals once since 2015 yet.

This is the oddest year ever, and they are out of the 8 only on percentage. Before the weekend had won 3 in a row. With the run home, they'll probably make the 8 this year.

Yet you are suggesting the situation is so dire the AFL step in and place a coach in place because the hard work of expansion will be undone.

They were diabolical on the weekend and overall aren't playing well this year, it is unbelievable the overreaction here. They beat Richmond like 3 weeks ago.

The squad is actually fairly young, it isn't aging out, and there is loads of young talent in the development side. It is a younger side than Carlton which everyone describes as developing.

Geelong has missed the finals once in Chris Scott's 10 year reign and a lot of us have been calling for the club to get rid of him since 2012.

Closed with Cameron as coach and he's been extended for 2 more years.

Just staggering.
