Collingwood. Forever.
I've heard a lot about Deledio (obviously) and quite a bit about Griffen - some people say Deledio is the best by far, others even say Griffen is slightly better - experts included.

So which is it? Is Deledio the clear winner or did the Doggies get a steal at No.3?

Both have some +'s and - 's

Delidio has better skills and is probably more versitile he also is a little taller, but doesnt weigh as much.

while

Griffen has played some SANFL so he is tried at a higher level.

Delidio for me but Griifen is a steal at 3

From all accounts now, it seems that each was rated as the #1 pick by many sources, yet Griffen never seemed to come into consideration as the #2 pick, and it makes me wonder why nobody thought Hawthorn would be interested.

But I digress, Griffen seems far less likely to turn out mediocre, of the two.

It's sort of like Griffen has a 90% chance to turn into a Mark Ricciuto-like superstar, while Deledio has an 80% chance of turning into James Hird-like superstar. James Hird is considered to be a better player than Mark Ricciuto, but that additional risk is the price.

Some teams would take the lesser chance for a better player, while some teams would rather play it safer for a player who will still be sublime, but not quite at the same level. That's why they switched on draft boards. Personally, I probably would've taken Griffen at #1 if I was the Tiges, but then again, not taking Deledio could have been a PR nightmare if Deledio turned out better. At least if you take Deledio you can say "hey, anybody would've done it", sort of like Hawthorn are with Hodge now.

I have seen heaps of Deledio (30+games) and a bit of Griffen(about 10) and I am yet to see Deledio fail to step up to the standard of footy he is playing.He is just in cruise mode all the time and I would expect him to step straight in and have an impact at AFL level next year.He is just a super talent.I hope I'm not taking too much away from Griffen as he is a super player as well but Deledio has a lot more tricks in his game and can play tall or small.

No mention of Tambling anywhere? Where will be compare to the other two?

...I just hope Jordan Lewis comes on and plays better than all three! ;)

for what its worth, Wisbey says griffen is a better kick than deledio "would bet his last dollar on griffen hitting a target" and likens his style of play to buckley: classy, industrious and efficient. will probably play center full time.

but he says deledio plays a sexier brand of footy: plays taller, carries the ball more etc... probably switch between half forward and ruck rover depending on where he is needed.

so ... buckley or hird? how would you split them? if hird wasnt inured so much, it would be damn hard.

as for tambling, people are saying 'better than wells'.

it will be interesting to see these three guys develop. I expect Griffen to have the most immediate impact on the field, with deledio catching up maybe towards the end of the season, and tambling not really ready until the season after.

Its very close. imo they are the stand out players in the draft along with Tambling. When we got picks 1 and 4 my ideal sceraino would be

1 - Deledio
4 - Griffin

Due to i thought they were the 2 outstanding players. Im wrapped to have Tambling at the club thou. I think its almost a sure thing Griffin will be a superstar.

Lids on the other hand has abit more risk. Saying that he is bottem age, one of the drafts youngest and has an immence scope for inprovment football and body wise. If got to choose it'd be Deledio at Punt Road for me.

Griffin is a abosute star player already and will be a class midfeilder. Deledio is also a very good player which can be Hird like.

Back to your question, no, Lids is not the clear winner. If anything Griffin is equally as good if not better currently. However both are utter guns.

I hope Griffin plays 15+ games this year. The kid is certainly good enough. He will be a star this year and I beleive the Doggies want exacly that.

Lids on the other hand is not 18 for some time yet. I dont expect much from him this season. Tambling does indeed looks ready for AFL, hes small but a Wells / Davey type small, certainlly could make a impact this year.

Richmond are very lucky to have Tambling taking hype away from the no. 1 draft pick.

Deledio = Hodge

Griffen = Judd

And, also, with players taking longer before they can contribute - they'll have another crap year to stockpile more draft picks, building further for the future. Don't want any articificial bumps of improvement.
