I am absolutely buggered as to why pro wrestling is so popular. I'm not having a go at anyone who follows it but I'm sure there must be some fundamental aspect of the 'sport' that I'm missing. It's probably like someone trying to understand how anyone could enjoy watching cricket but jeez...

The main problem is trying to understand what they are trying to achieve here. Is it supposed to be a sport or just typical American showmanship. The whole thing is just so contrived I just can't beleive that anyone could could find any reason to to become even the slightest bit involved.

The number of wrestling threads here and the seriousness of the responses leaves me bewildered.

Sorry to any wrestling fans but I had to get this off my chest.
 
I agree with both of you. Wrestling sucks. BIG time. Well in my opinion anyway

Seriously, I don't have a problem with people who enjoy wrestling and I don't mind them discussing it here because they seem to be doing it in specific threads.

Can't take a 'sport' seriously when its participants are obligated to endure full body waxes (except maybe swimming) and sport 3 inch tans... (when was the last time you saw a wrestler with hairy legs?) - let alone the fact that its total, utter and absolute w***erama.

Don't take my word for it - everything you want to know about it can be summed up by Andy Kaufman (Ie: played by Jim Carrey) in Man on the Moon.

There's a great Max von Sydow (of all people) passage in Hannah and her Sisters..

Well speaking as one of the brainwashed, all i can say is that from the time i was taken to festival hall as a small child and seeing stars like Andre,Skull Murphy,Killer Karl Kox and the like i was hooked.

Its a soap opera for men. Love,hate and betrayl plus huge blokes pounding the living %#*@ out of each other!

I don't like wrestling - have never watched it and am like Spogs, its appeal to certain people leaves me totally baffled.

But then again I'm an elitist snob

Anyone who has ever watched even a single episode of Jerry Springer would instantly realise why wrestling is so hugely popular - with certain types of people anyway !

It is a waste of space. I watch it every now and again to have a laugh, but then again I do the same with repeats of "Married: With Children" episodes.

It is more lowest-common-denominator stuff from the world leaders in cheap, crappy, empty 'entertainment' - the USA!

You people have no idea ! The fans of wrestling like me dont pretend it is real,it is real to some degree as the bumps they take are real, it is "sports entertainment", wrestling rules and is better and more entertaining than all sports except for football

I am guilty in that I watch it occasionally when I am surfing cable TV. I know it's crap, I know they are all actors (They are members of AE), and anyone who thinks the "bumps" are real needs to take a good look, however there is something addictive about it.
I hate the soap opera component, and turn it off when they get to the microphones, but I acknowledge the skill component in what is a choreographed "fight".

Bottom line...it's bullshite, but entertaining bullshite at times.

I don't understand why they have the word 'professional' in front of it. It is just a bunch of unemployed blokes doing fake wrestling moves. Or so i say.Dunno why, but my dad loves it

How about all of you ppl who absolutely have no idea about wrestling shut your mouthes....
I have been watching it for 16 years now and know a lot more about what goes on in wrestling more than any of you who are bagging it. How about all of you who think it's shite and fake go to the video shop and ask for some of Mick Foley's matches, or some ECW videos or Japan wrestling videos......watch them and then if you still think getting wrapped in barbed wire and thrown in fire, or falling off a 16 foot Hell In A Cell cage is fake, then plz reply and tell me how you think it's fake......

I can't work out what it is that draws people to it. i can't like if for the fact that it's all fake, the result is decided before it starts. i can't get into something which you know has a pre-determined finish.
i have a mate who thinks the plot of the fights are the best part of it, to me it just adds to the stupidity of it.
 
People go to a sport to see people compete against each other. A trip to the wrestling is just for a pack of laughs. I dont doubt that at one stage wrestling was very serious, but the American showbiz has totally changed the outlook on wrestling. Their acting skills are fantastic.

There is a need for you to shut your mouths as you have no bloody idea about pro wrestling ! If you watch the king of the death matches you will see that it isnt all fake, the bumps they take are all real even though the results are determined in advance, go buy king of the death matches and see men thrown into a pile of thumbtacks and see them thrown into barb wire then go and buy some fire on the earth tapes and see them get burnt, wrestling is great and you dont seem to put down people who watch soaps like neighbours so dont dput down people who watch something similar but not the same, as it is 50% real 50 % fake, IN FUTURE DONT COMMENT ON SOMETHING YOU KNOW DIDDLY SQUAT ABOUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
