Opinion Is it time for Daniel Kerr to go back to the WAFL

I don't think time in the WAFL is a viable option, but I also don't think him being our number one or two midfielder in the rotations is viable either. He is passed his prime and he is becoming too injury-prone to be reliable week-in, week-out. Having said that he should definitely maintain a place in the side and in the midfield rotations as he has proven (and the boys proved against GWS) that he is invaluable in the clinches.

Maybe have him play through the forward line just to keep someone occupied or even wearing the dreaded green vest for the remainder of the year - will also keep him fresh for finals, if all goes well..

and they were negative facts...

What is negative about a guy picking up 26 possessions in a match? What is negative about saying Kerr is a proven big game player? What is negative about saying Kerr attracts the number one tag each week?

I also don't see what is negative about stating the fact that Kerr was injured 10 minutes before half-time last week and therefore unable to play to this full potential. He would have been subbed off if Dalziell hadn't been injured.

The reality is Kerr is the no.1 midfielder that other teams worry about. They know he can turn a game. That is why he is afforded the no.1 tagger every week.

The season lasts for 22 weeks. Someone like Kerr will only get better as the season progresses.

It is clearly obvious that Daniel Kerr has been carrying at least one injury (back/shoulder) which both John Worsfold and himself have mentioned and that is he also underdone in terms of fitness.

I sat next to the interchange area on Sunday in the match against GSW and Kerr was puffing from the first time he came off unlike his team-mates. He is clearly not as fit as the rest of team.

2 negatives right there.

Not fit and carrying an injury

The nagative thing about getting 26 posessions is he only had 1 tackle, 2 marks and 3 clearances. The defensive side of his game is completely lacking at the moment. With our game plan that cant happen. He averages less than 1.5 tackles a game.

1. Kerr has never had a large number of marks. Career average of 2.5.
2. Kerr has never been a prominent tackler. Career average of 3. Furthermore, in our 3 games we haven't had to tackle much because we've been so dominant. Scott Selwoods tackles have plummeted.
3. Having 3 clearances is not that terrible - we've really been spreading the load.

If Kerr gets 26 possessions every week we are going to win far more games than we lose. Furthermore, it is not better for Kerr to be at peak fitness going into the finals then in the early rounds of the season?

Just admit the fact that you don't like him as a player.

Kerr had 8-9 possessions in the first quarter then got his calf injury. If he played the full game injury free he would have had another 25+ possession game.

He showed his class even when injured in either the 3rd or 4th quarter when he roved a Cox tapout in our F50 shrugged the tackler gave the ball to Hams who snapped a goal.

Kerr hasn't needed to play a prominent role this year but he'd doing his job of getting quality touches.

While he doesn't look 100% fit, he's definitely fit enough to play 60-75% game time.

I love him as a player but i would prefer him to rest/play wafl until he's 100% fit which imo hes obviously not. Hes a vital cog of our team but if he continues to have 1 tackle a game, 1 mark a game 2 clearances a game with 13 posessions i think someone else should be given a go.

Cox has been pretty average for the last 1 game.

perhaps time for a stint in the WAFL?

I dunno, that Priddis bloke has been pretty average, I didn't even see him last game! Should be dropped for a more stable player. Maybe a Tom Swift or a proven big-time performer in injury-free Bradd Dalziell?

Kerr is a big game player. see last year's finals. see 2006 grand final and the 2005 grand final when he was injured. His form last year was great when not injured. Played well against Melbourne round 2 and last week he got a knock. Also he draws a quality opponent/tagger each week, thus releasing Shuey and the like

I dont believe he should head back to the WAFL,i am glad he is in the side, it will only be a matter of time before he dominates again, he is getting the best tagger ever week and they are doing a number on him but in the process blokes like S.Selwood, C.Masten, A.Gaff are running a absoulte clinic out there, which is great for there confidents. I think oppostion coaches choose to ignore these guys racking up touches due to the fact that they are worried that letting Kerr of his leash means game over for them :D

hurn missed a few targets last week, perhaps its time we send him back to the WAFL to fine tune his skills?

darling only kicked one goal last week too, i'm not certain he's done enough to hold his spot....? same goes for lynch...

just because we have comfortably been winning games, why should we keep carrying all these proven gun players?

Thank God he wasn't, our only midfielder (ok maybe Scooter too) who hasn't looked hurried, fumbly or overawed in the first half ...

Threw himself over the ball, can't half commit when it's wet because the ball will run away from you.

Lyyynnnchy, do you want me to close this thread and pretend it never happened? :);)
