The obesity problem is caused by the anti-smoking brigade. Everyone was a lot thinner when kids were smoking more and it was socially acceptable to have a few darts before and after dinner in a restaurant. Start banning things and there are always unexpected consequences.

Players drink sports drinks all the time so it must be good for you.
It probably is good for afl players to replace the kilojoules and electrolytes they have used up after they have ran 12k-15km. Not so good for you if you've sat on your arse arse all day.

I mean if you drank 8 litres of the official White milk of the afl every day, I dont think that would be doing your body any favours.

So he's just being the usual dickhead supporter?

"Oh no, there are a few threads that don't state the greatness of Hawthorn, best make a sarcastic one in response"
Agreed.

Creating a 'witty' thread to criticise another featuring his club.

Pathetic.

If it was posted on the front of the machine like nutritional information is on food it would be much harder to ignore.

Instead we get shitty ads warning us about the robot uprising.
everybody knows that. it's like someone who needs to be told not smoke at a petrol station. if you can't figure it out for yourself, theres not much hope for you really...

Take a 2L bottle of coke
10.6 grams of sugar per every 100 mls
Multiply that by 20 and you get 212 grams
Four grams of sugar in one teaspoon so divide 212 by 4 and you get 53 teaspoons of sugar.

The maths isn't that hard to do. The information is readily available for anyone who seeks it when eating unhealthy foods.

Gaming is much more predatory and maintains as little information as possible as to what people are actually putting their money on.
Except different sized bottles (375ml, 600ml, 1.25 litre, 2 litre etc) have different recommended serving sizes. I mean, you can still work it out, but it's all a con to ensure you don't realise exactly how many teaspoons of sugar you are consuming. Typed as I finish off my frosty can of coke (size 375m, servings 1). :)

Rubbish, the increase in obesity has been caused by advances in science and engineering allowing for incredibly cheap production of processed foods which are high in fat and/or sugar.

It's cheaper to buy a bottle of coke and packet of tim tams than It is to buy half a dozen bananas.

I agree that serving sizes should either be universal or eliminated all together but the fact that there is an easily quantifiable measurement right next to it nullifies much of that argument.

Can I start the next thread about car manufacturers. Something, something, something .....diesel, petrol - what were they thinking. They are killing us with that smoke that cars have generated since Spangher was born.

All clubs should immediately drop their sponsorships with car manufacturers - that'll teach em.

Obesity is now the leading cause of death in Australia.

Around 9 million Australians are overweight and another 5million are obese this includes over 1million overweight and 250,000 obese children.

More than 5million Australian have fatty Liver disease and over 1million have type 2 diabetes.

Meanwhile every AFL club has an affiliation with Coca-Cola and or the Pepsi Owned Gatorade brand or similar.

Players do ads for Gatorade and PowerAde, supposed sports drinks that contain around 25 spoonfuls of sugar with high salt content and market them as healthy drinks that makes you an athlete.

Somehow this is overlooked while people are outraged about poker machines that adversely affect a tiny fraction of the population.

If we are going to run the morality meter over AFL and club revenue this is the first place to start.

But PepsiCo is owned by Quaker Oats -- and porridge is good for you.

Let's not pretend that nutritional information is much use though. Done only reluctantly, after years of fighting, and using measurements meant to deliberately obfuscate. It's whydifferent bottles have different serving sizes, simply to confuse the findings.
True. But they are required to give the standardised (per 100g) info.
