I might be alone in this but i really miss kicking SA but in State of Origin footy, i know WA havent embraced it lately but thats probably because there not good enough! Do we need to have a carnival format every 2/4 years? Does anyone else enjoy State footy or his it dead in the water? Im sure SA love watching their players come back from Vic clubs to represent their State. What about players in this era that will never experience playing for the BIG V?

BUB - don't put all the blame on WA, Victoria games never got sell-outs from what I remember and the reason to why there was pathetic crowds at Perth State Games was because the top players didn't put themselves up for selection, with coaches prefering to rest them so they wouldn't get injured.

The AFL can restructure the whole state of origin system and include NSW, QLD, Tasmania, NT and ACT (scrap the Allies) or stay with the International Rules, which they are doing instead.

State of origin died when the Crows and Eagles came in as they brought back good players from Vic and took the entire SANFL / WAFL onto their lists...therefore the SA S.O.O. side was effectively the Crows so who cared.

As we go on though, the proportion of players from another state in each club will grow...meaning it may actually mean something to get them all together every now and then. If the international series continues to grow then I would make selection in it dependant on playing State of Origin...that would get the players interest back....or put loads of cash on it...they will always play for that

International rules?? That's a joke. Australia's best footy's players shouldn't be kicking around a round, white ball, it should be a proper footy. Give me State of Origin any day over that ridiculous combination of Gaelic/Aussie Rules Football. Nothing puts me to sleep better than Kenny G, Mozart and International Rules.

It's true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance??

I don't really enjoy it but it is an AFL tradition. The AFL is going downhill with it's traditions and stuff. The AFL is interested in money, money, money and the international rules is expanding the game and for them, it is great. The afl is losing interest in the public and that makes for a bad league.

I have always enjoyed watching state of origin. However, the risk of injury is there, and the game doesn't really mean anything, as the best players from WA, SA and the other states now play with and against Victorians week in week out

I've always enjoyed the S of O games, but the top players treat the concept with contempt.
While that attitude remains it is just not worthwhile.

I still cant believe that Rugby League has embraced a concept developed by Aussie rules and because of clever marketing and support of State of Origin has made it into a monster event? Dont tell me its because it is a stepping stone to national selection, because State of Origin is a much biggerevent to those North of the border than any of their Mickey mouse international fiascos. I believe players are keen on the concepts, whilst clubs naturally are nervous about them, however i think the media is the biggest culprit always focusing on those pulling out with 'injuries' rather than the event itself. Theres been some classic encounters over the years, who can forget the early years in Perth with Gary Buckenara and a young Gary Ablett shooting it out. Or a Victorian forward line in front of a packed house with Dunstall and plugger as targets. These were big occasions because the media and the AFL promoted them properly. Still i fear your all right and well never witness the BEST vs the BEST from each state

state of origin should never have stopped ! It beats the international series by a mile, the international series is a bore. Nothing beats getting all our players back to take on the arrogant vics and there have been many memories from past years - such as SA's domination over the vics in the early 90s DESPITE having a smaller population. and what about when Garry mcintosh gave williams a touch up , bring it back, make all australian selection be judged on the origin series !
