Is it un-Magpielike to complain about Trolls?

Whenever I picture a Collingwood fan, I think of a small kid in the 1920s wearing a cap - you know the big ones like the baggy green. And he's a smartarse. He can take anything that the Toffs from Carlton can dish out to him and he can give it back in spades.

And I think of the guy in the outer - in the Rush stand - sitting among the visiting fans and listening to their various rants ..... and then following up with smartarse comments that take the piss.

To me, Collingwood fans can dish it out but they can take it too. There's no question that it's open season on Magpie fans on the main board where every other team's fans dumps on them and most of the moderators ban Magpie posters at the drop of a hat.

Even though I've been banned for a number of BF no-nos, I've never thought seeking out protection from the moderators. In the past, I've been told that I wasn't liked and there's been endless accusations of trolling but none of it has killed me. I see all the posts as part of the rich tapestry that is BF.

In fact, I go further. I would feel less of a magpie fan if I didnt take comments from opposition supporters on the chin. As far as I'm concerned, let em have a go. Isnt that what it means to be a Pie supporter. I tend to wince a bit when outsiders get accused of trolling when they post on the Magpie forum. As far as I'm concerned, being despicable human beings is a part of their lot in life. It's like complaining when a shark bites off your leg. It's what sharks do. I get more unnerved if opposition fans are actually polite and open-minded.

I enjoy the trolls coming on our board, but sometimes our own poster's give them/he far too much space for a "right" to reply.
i see it as a opportunity for them to hang themselves. every club has a weakness...although a hawk fan provides a few problems

My only issue with trolls is when they try to pass themselves off as Pies supporters even then I don't care so long as they don't have a sook when they are exposed.
That's a good point but I would have thought that the more sooking they do, the greater the entertainment..

I'll take the hits when we're at the footy, the pub, on the train or anywhere else in the real world...

But this is our social club, our clubhouse, our rooms - In here, we should get to be as one-eyed as we want!

Stuff the outsiders, this is black and white territory.

Funnily enough though, it seems to be a pretty rare occasion that a Hawks fan feels the need to troll.

Usually the trash talkers are from the perennially trash teams.

Smacking out all the big BF topics Markman!

We should pride ourselves on not being prissy when other supporters visit the site and want to have crack.

Our Mods do a good job.
Generally agree with this. We should take it as a point of pride that no opposition supporter has ever been banned on this board for liking posts (i dont think)

I didn't have Mick or his close cousin on ignore but when I saw his name in red I did lol.

..but u know he'll be re-incarnated
No doubt. He does have a pretty distinctive style so should be easy to spot. I don't have a problem with most posters but when someone is deliberately trying to piss people off they should be called out for it.

By my definition these days a troll is someone who tries to cause pain, embarrassment, discomfort, confusion, fear, loathing....and all from a safe distance invisibly behind a computer keyboard.
In days gone by I think we'd have called them a coward.
Should Pies people call them out or complain about their antics? Yeah I think we should. Again, in days gone by if a bloke was sprouting rubbish and trying to incite us because we were Pies supporters...he'd be sorted out. Not too many people would troll if that friendly punch in the nose still existed (can anyone design an app for that?).
Pies people can debate, we can have opinions, we can shake the MCG when we're in full cry. But there's nothing that says someone should be able to hide behind a veil of impunity and chuck hand grenades just because technology allows them to.

pain? fear? discomfort? embarassment? Trolls can do all of this from behind their keyboards?

btw if you have a copy of those naked pics I've been posting of myself, I beg you not to send them to my mother...

I think u should cop a ban for being a dumbarse. There are a lot of Carlton, Richmond and Brisbane posters who should be permanently banned.
