Yes he does, because he hardly ever turns it over. Even if he doesn't kick it to Naughton, he gives it to a player who gives it to Naughton.

I would say 2-3 seasons ago he wasn't hurting opposition with his disposal as much as he should but I think currently he is having his best season so far in that regard.

I think he's a gun and find this thread utterly perplexing. He uses the ball well, knows how to find it, sticks his nose in and tackles.....what more do you want?

Macrae is a good player and clubs would love to have him, but quantity doesn't necessarily mean quality with him.

He doesn't have a lot of hurt factor with his disposal. In many ways he does remind me of a Tom Rockliff at Brisbane who used to rack up the pill but didn't do a lot with it.

Would probably agree with you 2 or 3 years ago but his improvement in his use of the footy hasn't gone unnoticed by Dogs supporters.

Its true what they say - you only get one chance to make a first impression and that first impression is hard to change.

Let the AFL world dismiss Macca as an ineffective accumulator because he goes undertagged and unnoticed.

Dogs fans know of his immense value - I suggest you watch him play again and closely watch his ball use

He’s an incredible link up player with extremely clean and fast hands. He’s super hard to tackle.

he gets out on the spread and uses the ball well.

he’s become a damaging inside 50 kick, which was previously not a strength.

He’s a beautiful tackler. He’s incredibly hard at the ball inside.

He doesn’t kick as many goals or take as many metres as Bont, or libba this year, but that’s fine, they’re f***ing guns too.

if you watch Macrae and you don’t think he deserves his status as an excellent footballer you probably don’t have a footy opinion worth hearing

You're in an extremely small minority here.

There's only so far you can go with the whole "it's my opinion" tirade before it looks silly.

Either 98% of the football world has fallen for media propaganda that Jack Macrae is a very good player and you're the only one clever enough to point it out, or he actually is a very good player and you've developed a set against him/the Dogs.

I know which one it is.

I said probably. This COULD be just one view of yours that happens to be a shocker and you MAY have other views that don’t paint you as such a fool on the matter. I didn’t rule that out.

he’s 2 time AA, AA 40 man squad the year before. Top 10 Brownlow last two years. Currently ranked 14 in the AFL according to advanced statistics. Leads the league in disposals at above average efficiency. Leads the league in score involvements.

there is not a single indicator that he doesn’t deserve his reputation as an excellent footballer. If you stand by opinions you can’t back up, don’t be upset if people question the credibility of your view in the future- it just makes you an unreliable source of information without a proven reputation for forming opinions based on sound logic.

I hope for you that this view is an outlier and the rest of your views aren’t so dumb

He's a very good player, but I'd take both Grundy and Moore over him and probably for us Adams too - if we had Libba though, I'd prefer Macrae to Adams.

You’d take Macrae over Adams no matter what the scenario was. Better player full stop.

1.62 of his disposals per game come from free kicks.

Are you suggesting if you took away 1.62 from his disposals he’d be half the player he is? That’s assuming he flops for 100% of his free kicks which is completely absurd.

Petracca is far flashier than Macrae. His possessions can be quite brutal. Macrae just doesn’t stop though, always in it, whereas Petracca can be unsighted during quarters, hence the huge gap in DT numbers.

It is more or less an observation that in the modern game, total possessions has become an irrelevant stat

I don't think "flashy" is the correct descriptor for Petracca. Pickett is "flashy", Petracca is damaging. i.e. taking a risky that opens up the play for his team, kicking goals, putting team-mates in a position to kick goals

That's why you notice him - every time he touches the ball he is influential

The games best accumulator who now kicks the ball at a level to take advantage of that. He's so vital for the way the Dogs move the ball by hand and by foot. His disposals get boosted by the way the Dogs flick it around but you also can't play that way if you don't have a huge squad of players capable of linking up so well.

But he just doesn't quite have the same ability to burst through, between or over opponents that the very best mids have. He'll probably always be knocking on the fringes of the best 5 mids.

I wonder if in a different system he'd get less of the ball but get more of it running forward in to open space using his tank, but that's not how the Dogs play.
