Opinion Is Jack Macrae Overrated?

Superstar. Him and Hunter do a lot of unrewarding defensive running to help out the back 6 that you don’t see on tele.

I’d say he’s close to the best inside 50 kick in the comp. Which is saying something because 24 months ago that was his weakness.

He was overrated a couple years ago, but not anymore. I’ve watched most doggies games this year and he is very good. I don’t revere him as one of the best players in the comp yet though.

I don’t recall the stage when MaCrae wasn’t underrated. And apparently now he was overrated??

There have been better mids than Macrae who went their entire careers with fewer than that.

The way he is going with the Bulldogs likely to be contenders for the next 4 or 5 years, he will probably end up with as many as Ricciuto, Buckley and R.Harvey

Not sure if he’s overrated or underrated - he’ll just pick up 30+ and a bunch of score involvements every week regardless and that’s absolutely fine with me.

If the goal of a professional athlete is to provide consistency of performance then at the moment he’s in a rare zone. If he manages to increase his impact on the scoreboard he’d be unquestionably in the top tier of players in the comp.

His only real problem right now is that there are two other guys right beside him who are lighting it up - Bont and Libba operating at an elite level basically every week too. Nice problem to have though if Macrae is considered the third best player in your midfield.

Bulldogs supporters have massively rated MaCrae for years now. It was the media pushing the underrated narrative.

Well, Fyfe would still give him an run for his money even when he is a bit of a quiet achiever this season. But otherwise it sounds pretty reasonable.

Advice would be to actually watch a player a few times more then once before creating a ridiculous thread about him.

I do watch other games that don't have my own team playing.

Freo were 9th when I said it, but yes fyfe is obviously one of the best of the past decade, he's not on fyfe's level.

You're allowed to have your opinion and that's completely fine.

Jacko is 1st in the league in score involvements and 10th in the league in goal assists. That would completely fly against the narrative that he doesn't hurt the opposition. He's not the explosive flashy pure match winner that Bont, Danger or Dusty are, but that doesn't change his impact.

Underrated player, if anything.

Tidy and reliable player who accumulates a lot of the ball, high retention rate, and keeps firing precise darts into attack. Wonderful player.

People will vary in opinion on how they rate different players, but Macrae is the first player EVER to have 30+ disposals in the first 10 games of the season.

Any other player with those sort of numbers would be considered close to the best player in at least their own team, but nobody rates Jack that highly.

Pretty sure that means he is not over-rated,

He's a very good player, but I'd take both Grundy and Moore over him and probably for us Adams too - if we had Libba though, I'd prefer Macrae to Adams.

Macrae is a good player and clubs would love to have him, but quantity doesn't necessarily mean quality with him.

He doesn't have a lot of hurt factor with his disposal. In many ways he does remind me of a Tom Rockliff at Brisbane who used to rack up the pill but didn't do a lot with it.
