Over the past couple of years I cannot help but notice that Beatson has made some 'left of centre decisions', or decisions that are bordering on being 'way out there decisions', with early draft picks.

Decisions that the football world have labelled as 'surprise selections'.

Using pick 13 on Ashley McGrath was a bit odd at the time. Then there was our first selection used to pick up Gram. Neither player having participated in the U18 carnival, albeit McGrath due to injury.

Beatson needs to stop chasing the flashy type, and start looking at the best talent on offer.

Our recruiting has tended to go off the boil a little since Clayton left us hasn't it.

Yeah....I spose your right.

Things could be worse. I could be living in Hobart.

ok mav i will try and cheer you up here is a tip not for this coming draft but the next if you want a young tassie forward who just could be the next lynch put this name in your diary - billy morrison will be a star and is tipped to be an early draft choice next year !! plays for north hobart and the tassie mariners tell beatson to have a look at him !!

now mav no need to be bitchy nothing wrong with hobart ask lynchy. have you been here ?

How can the recuritment manager, who is in charge of the team which has won what? a possible 37 or so out of 45 games, be losing his way? Mav, I'd get quick on the turps or atleast refrain from posting until yr over yr lil avril lavinge stage, cause my friend, yr the only one on the downward spiral.
I will also make not that robert walls and those in charge in the formative yrs have alot to do with the team we have today, so his recruitment and knowlege of the scotts, lappins ect has been fundemental to our success.
The powers, nottings, brown's, blacks, charmen are all testiment to the great young talent we have, on average by yr, wasnt our grand final team only like .3 of a yr younger then Collingwoods which supposedly has a young team? The depth of talent and maturity and character of the above players hides the fact that these guys are actually still kids.

Supposedly this yr we werent going to win, but we did with every week being grand finals. Bring on next yr and a three peat I do say. Let others from outside the den be negative about our team, I say we only need positivity within our ranks.
As the Lions players did with Des, if he doesnt want to play on our team, let him go, the same can be said about supporters.

I spent 2 weeks there. That was enough.

Although the place has been good for producing past Fitzroy players.

I've been on a downward spiral for the past 10 years.

at least one thing good tassie footballers dont go running home to mummy like some we wont mention they stick it out for the long hall

Mav you need a break. Come to the country or go over to London and have a holiday with Diggs. Get out of the city, all this is affecting your head. Or go on an outback adventure with Olmy in the mountains.

And don't knock Tasmania, our good friend Tassie_Steve lived there and Mick Martin came from there. What ever happened to Tassie_Steve out of curiosity? I miss his footy topics.

It's time all you doomsayers took a look at our positives. WE still have the entire 22 from GF 2001, and 21 from 2002. WE have lost Headland who will be a star at Fremantle, but never really set the world on fire for 3 seasons. We have gained Caracella who I rate very highly. Any player who is not a key forward and has kicked more goals than games played is a rarity (ala Aka). Cupido for all his skills only played 13 games in 3 years. Along the way we have developed Shattock and Charman and Mcgrath will be a good player. If we had lower draft picks and recruited absolute guns in the last couple of years they would have become very disillusioned trying to break into our side and we would have more Headlands on our hands. I think our recruiting has been pretty good, we seem to have back up players for each position.
With an eye to the future our lower draft picks this year can help lay our foundations, we won't always be top dog but I think our future looks pretty solid.

One thing that I have noticed, is that Scott Clayton very rarely gets a mention these days. More often, you will hear people going on how L.Matthews and K.Beatson "built" the Lions side, however, quite a number of the stars who are at the club today came to the club via work from people such as Clayton and R.Walls.

If Maverick is Avril Lavigne, does that make you Shirley Manson? Or Marylin Manson perhaps?

As for Maverick being on the "turps", at least he gets his 'tense' correct when posting! :p
