Is Mattner gone?

As the commentators on FS said, McBurney (#3) was the most significant player on the ground today. Was everywhere in the first quarter and made some interesting decisions.

At least we know if God retires, he has a replacement waiting...

Ok back from Melbourne and my impression at the game was that there were a couple of shockers both ways for both teams but overall the umps were ok.

I don't think it was intentional, just a reflex action to stop the guy from kicking a goal on the run. If the AFL match review panel are consistent, he should get off.

Hmm, if hed been trying to trip i somehow doubt he would have aimed for the upper leg.
Are you saying it was a kick, not a trip? That's much worse.

In Mattner's favour he hasn't been suspended before (I think) which gives you 25% off and he could also get 25% off for an early guilty plea. Hopefully that means he doesn't miss any matches. It was ridiculous that Hodge got off. Dangerous act, hopefully Blackwell has suffered no ill-effects.

Imo Mattner HAS to go for that. If he doesn't, it will further prove how inconsistent the AFL is with reports

Hang on, if he does get games it’s extremely inconsistent as it exactly the same as the Luke Hodge incident in round 1.

details here

Martin Mattner, Adelaide, has been charged with tripping Luke Blackwell, Carlton, during the fourth quarter of the Round Nine match between Adelaide and Carlton, played at Telstra Dome on Saturday May 26, 2007.

In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record with an early plea, due to an existing five-year good record.

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), medium impact (two points) and body contact (one point). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand. He has an existing five-year good record, which reduces his penalty by 25 per cent to 60 demerit points. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and a 45 points towards his future record.

I would have thought the tribunal would have wanted to get even or tougher for the Hodge get out of jail, but looks like MnM was lucky IMO.

But very good news. Take it and run Matty.

I can't believe Lappin got off! He only missed by a metre.

Marty might feel just a teensy bit aggrieved given Kane Johnson brought him down by foot last week with no sanction, but a reprimand is a good result.

Well we havent had any luck with injuries but at least on the tribunal front we have been ok. Isnt this 3 out of 3 cases that have managed to be able to still play the following weekend with a reprimand being the maximum penalty. Well basset had to appeal but neverless.

It seems Marvin that when you are attempting to trip you have to have a realistic attempt according to the MRP. I think this means you have to actually contact with the player not miss but still make an attempt. Although they did also use the terminology "genuine". I love how the MRP this year seems to know what is in the players minds.

Sorry NN - I should have had the sarcasm smiley on.

tribunal has really softened up. surely when there is contact like that one should be given just on principle

I would've been peeved if he had got one after Hodge hadn't of got one earilier in the year. In all honesty I would've thought around 1 for Mattner.

Probably be best to let it go mate. It didn't look terribly good when you watch the incident. If we contest it, there may be a hidden agenda. ;)

The boys On the Couch were comparing this incident to the Campbell(?)/Judd incident where he got 3 games ....... and were commenting how an offered reprimand is inconsistant.

Hopefully Reidy has already been on the phone accepting

I think it may be something like take what you are given and do not complain.
