I say yes. There are other great bowlers out there, some faster but i think McGrath is by far and away the best fast bowler in the world. So consistent and always gets the big wickets (Lara Tendulkar)

Thoughts?

Hard to argue with that jod, but ive got to say Allan Donald would have to be a close second, his consistency would be up there with McGrath, hes got a big heart, always looks likely to take a wicket and always aggressive

Is he the best fast bowler in the world?

YOU BET!

Courtney was never scary, terrific bowler yes, but not in the scary mold.

Curtly Curtley was another matter, very intimidating fellow was Mr.Ambrose. Not quite in the Andy Roberts league (he gave me nightmares, and i never even had to face him!) but up there.

Getting back to the original question. Donalds record in all forms is the equal of anything Mcgraths done. Cant split them. Akram when fully fits just as good as either of them too.

He'd scare the shit out of me, but I can't bat. Still, for someone that's not express pace, he got some pretty steep bounce off a good length, and that can trouble anyone.

Out of today's crop of Aussie bowlers, I'd pick Gillespie ahead of McGrath and Lee. Very few bad balls (Brett Lee take note), very economical and consistent, and doesn't lose his temper and start the short crap when he can't get a wicket (a la McGrath) It's just a pity that he always seems to be injured. Doesn't try to bowl to quickly but is still consistently around 140-142 km/h without losing his line and length.

Re: pace bowlers: Donald was the best - about three years ago (after Ambrose slowed down). Now McGrath and Pollock pretty much share it - Pollock IS the S.A. attack... forget about Klusner, Kallis and the almost retired Donald - they have problems should anything happen to the big blood nut..

Spinners:
I rate Muralitharan - although I think he has, lets say a suspect action. Warne used to be king but it now just really trying to get it all back after injury. I don't rate Kumble or Saqlain all that highly.

Just my opinions.
