MELBOURNE DEMONS! :)
throughout the season teams are put under pressure by the media and by their supporters too for many different reasons. do you think that helps the team as they want to proof the media right/ wrong or does all the attention and pressure getting the team down as they are not focused on the task ahead but on responding or ignoring the media.
personally i think that if all depends on the situation. too much attention is not good and too much pressure can certanly make the players nervous there by making them unable to play to their full potential. i think that when a team doesn't have too much expectations and is playing for no one but the fans and themselves, i think they can get much furthur... but really it depends on the team and their mental state.
what do you think?

Good question DR
I don’t know how much the players actually read the newspapers, but if they were smart (or dumb) enough they wouldn’t. I think an even better spot for players not to read is the fan forums / bulletin boards. I’m sure Nick Daffy would be ill at some of the things that have been written about him on the Richmond boards!
I think the players would feel the pressure a lot more directly from the fans. It is easy enough for them to ignore whatever is said in the paper (especially if you can’t read!); on the other hand, having 30 – 40,000 screaming fans (who are apparently on your side) booing and screaming for your guts can be a little disconcerting.
I think that this is one of the problems that has haunted Richmond for so long. The amount of pressure created by the fans has actually worked to the detriment of the team. We have long demanded success, and want it now! Maybe this has become overbearing?
