Because Goody said he was gonna sub him out in the press conference before he took the mark, not sure why you're getting offended about that
Why do you think people are offended? I'm not offended by your posting lol. It's an internet forum. I know Goody said he was going to sub him

I tend to agree. There’ll be a day where Gawn won’t be there. Someone needs to start lifting out there. I get nothing from Viney, Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw that screams leader.

Lever should be our next skipper.
It's the dumb stuff that Lever does time and time again though. How can you not know the protected area rule? It resulted in a 50m penalty and goal. Then later on Jack Riewoldt gets the ball and Lever overplays his left foot only for him to predictably swing around on his right foot and goal. Then he fumbled later on in the game reaching for the ball with one hand when he could've got 2 hands to, which cost a shot on goal. Not to mention, the dumb 50m and goal he conceded vs Brisbane in a cut throat final for looking at himself on the big screen and not giving the ball back. It's starting to frustrate me his complete lack of game sense.

Great to have an optimist around, although I don't think a grinding win over (currently) a 16th placed Richmond shows its wide open again.

Just thought I'd overreact to a win to counter balance the overreaction to a loss.

Yin & Yang. Namaste.

Too many players are inconsistent or just not playing well. It's certainly not shut but we look well off the pace off this year. I suppose it's only round 6 and gf aren't won in April, but I haven’t seen anything to suggest we've improved enough to bridge the gap. I do like that we are trying to move the ball quicker but we still seem to be lacking the skills to execute it. Even when we get it right we still bomb it into the forward line. Our forward line also aren't working in cohesion. A couple of times they got in each other's way, probably more reason to just stick it out with our current group so they can develop that chemistry.

We were 10-0 last year and capulitulated in the end. We're 4-2 and playing a little like Jeckyll and Hyde. Win enough games to finish top 4 and who knows. Gotta be fit and firing end of season, not necessarily now. Just need to find the balance up forward and get the balance down back right. Still a work in progress, but if JVR and Petty can hold up with Chandler, then we've solved a big issue. Ultimately if we make finals and have a fit Gawn, Oliver, Trac, May, Lever and Koz, then we're a shot.

We are mediocre...luckily so is everyone else. Petty and JVR up forward our biggest opportunity to improve on last year IMO. Not writing us off but plenty of work to do.

Sums it up nicely.

We can really improve in the middle as well it's kinda Oliver or nothing rn. No one else is dominating. Really would love Rivers or someone to become a fringe AA

He wasn't even in there once from what I can remember, dont think I even saw Pickett, maybe he was in there once or twice. Tell you who was in there shitloads, Sparrow and Jordon. So we have a starting midfield of Viney, Trac and Oliver and we rotated in more of the same supposed contest ball winners and still couldn't beat the Tigers in centre clearance.

Yeah that was ****ing weird. Only thing I remember thinking was tigers attack from the back so I think we loaded up with smalls and tacklers. Would have loved to see Pickett at least though seeing as he did **** all

Also Oliver & Trac are capable of better than what they're giving us right now. Would love a better user around them to step up but both have shown the ability to use the ball at least a bit better in the past.

Probably stupid to pin my hopes on Salem who was crap last year and hasn't played as a midfielder ever barring a few games 5+ years ago, but someone who can use it well for Clarry & Trac to feed it to would be ideal. Rivers is a bit of a panic merchant but probably worth experimenting with beyond a game or two. Our starting midfield is pretty samey, and our current rotations are just worse versions of them.

Pickett has looked dynamic when on the ball this year, I very much hope this isn't a sign of how it will be moving forward, coz he was the ace up our sleeve and a much needed change up from what we have, same with Rivers somewhat to a lesser degree. Need to get a better midfield balance desperately rather than 3-5 guys who just hunt the ball and get in each others way a lot of the time

Yeah mate completely agree, we have a stack of ball winners who win it and feed it around to other ball winners. Surely you chuck Salem, Hunter, Pickett etc around Oliver and watch it happen

I'd love to see Bowey and McVee being a bit more positive off the back of stoppages so we can spread laterally and get the ball into their hands. Both are capable of finding and hitting good options consistently

We've fallen in love with coming out the front of stoppages after the '21 finals onslaught, but around the ground it mostly ends up with a hack-kick forward. Better to exit sideways and have run from behind who have their eyes up and can use the ball well to the likes of Pickett, Spargo, Chandler who have run into space.

Perhaps this is the growing pains we're seeing at the moment. A shift towards being more positive which is making our usually rock-solid defence look sub-par. Better to try it now than get to finals with a game plan that can only get us to semi-final week.

Yeah I'd love to see Salem given time as a midfielder when he returns. A few of us have called for this for years and it's never happened, so I won't hold my breath.

But it makes sense.

He's not even a good defender I don't understand the persisting with him there
