Review Is our forward line dysfunctional?

Love to know what your thoughts on our changes are. It's essentially like for like with an equally immobile but more natural forward in for TBC, and Hepp and Goddard to cover Dempsey with Howlett into the midfield.

Not particularly happy tbh.

How come your not happy with the changes?

I would have thought it was pretty clear cut to be honest.

Do you think Kommer is lucky to have kept his spot this week?

Was he possibly saved due to a lack of a real quality small forward and too many changes to the team?

My thoughts on Kommer are well known, but yes, he's very lucky in my book. I like the guy, because he's an absolute friggen maniac, but he's not a forward.

Some Adam Goodes guy, and that bloke Franklin can play a bit :p

Again, what the **** are you talking about?

What exactly do those two guys and their ethnicity have to do with our troubles delivering inside 50 and our lack of crumbers? What exactly is the "indigenous superstar effect" and how is referring to it "too soon"?

It was tongue in cheek but your clear vendetta against me is clouding your judgement. It was sarcasm, I'm no word genius like you Ben so I can't show it like some on here.. (never was my strong point, even in real life )

We lack a superstar indigenous forward of centre. Hence my reference of Adam Goodes and Lance Franklin. As much as people may not want to see it, they are stars of the game and we, unfortunately lack one.

Too soon was the fact I was reffering to these Indigenous players after the episodes of last week (remember, with Eddie McGuire and that 13 - year old girl calling Adam Goodes an "ape")

How is dropping Bellchambers "pretty clear cut"?

Tom Bellchambers is out of form. It is more than just the hitout numbers, he isn't offering as much around the ground as he was in the early rounds. A rest will do him good, maybe even give him the week off (and before you say we have the bye coming out, it isn't this week. I dont want us carrying players).

What a ridiculously ill-informed and (being generous to you) borderline racist thing to say.

I take it you don't know what "clear cut" means. It may well be a good move, but it's far from clear cut.

Care to elaborate on what your opinion on both of these is then?

It will be interesting to see how clearing a ruckman out of the forward line affects the function of it.

And considering we have 4 goals from the last 3 weeks out of Ryder and TBC, when effectively one of them is forward at all times it isn't really enough goals.

Well mainly that a player's race has absolutely nothing to do with his value to a team or as a player, and suggesting otherwise is just absolutely ill-informed, and uneducated.

Like I said Benjamin :p:p:D It was sarcasm..

Im no racist hence why I keep saying it was tongue in cheek.

It's still a ridiculously ill-informed thing to say, especially in light of recent events. I'm still not sure what sort of point you were trying to make.

The fact we are lacking a star goal kicker, ones of the indigenous variety have shown over the journey that they can do the miraculous sometimes better than others.

So have players of Italian background, and players of Irish background, and players of Scottish background (including our record goalkicker). What's your point?

I'm taking it as a concession from TRB that they have the balance wrong with Hurley, Crameri and Ryder/T-Bell. Like you've said, they have just dropped the biggest under-performer of this group of players, a few pack marks and a number of meaningless taps aside Bellchambers has been quite poor in the last few weeks.

What changes? Presumably JD will be the relief ruck which, combined with his first year player level of endurance, means that he will be that player closer to goal (i.e. the third tall), and we will still be relying on Crameri at CHF with Hurley also getting out to provide a target. It seems that we just have a better option closer to goal, which is nice, but given that we struggle to get the ball into those sorts of meaningful positions it is not apparent how anything has changed.

The forward line will be better this week because of the return of Hurley and Davey and it is worth noting that it has been quite some time since our best key forward has had a decent run of matches. We are also hamstrung by apparent injury to Gumbleton (it certainly didn't look that bad), so even if we wanted to "go tall" we probably don't have the personnel available to make it worth trying.

I like to think that Kommer benefits from the number of changes made by default before anyone started to question his position in the side. Cutting changes to a maximum of 4 may be arbitrary but feels right. 5 changes is 20% of a side and it is just too many (not that 4 isn't).

There is a lot of talk about carrying talls, who are poor at ground level, and crucifying purely attacking smalls but deafening silence when we are talking about someone with Kommer's limitations who needs to be doing so much more, both offensively and defensively, to be a viable AFL option (there is one in every team whose attitude seems to have his coach by the balls at the selection table). I mean, I've seen Crameri and Jetta land more tackles than I've seen from Kommer in the last few weeks. Pressure acts may well be the most pointless stat Champion Data has come up with.

I was thinking we needed to drop T-Bell for balance was not gutsy enough to call it. Could backfire but could be an absolute master stroke. Paddy plays his best footy in the guts and I think we are also at our most dangerous when he plays there too. It also allows our forward line to structure up with fair dinkum forwards and not make shift forward line players.

Not expecting Joe to kick a bag tomorrow night but he has a big enough reputation to actually allow Hurley and possibly Crameri/Winderlich off the chain. Defenders don't get overly worried about Paddy and T-Bell up forward.

if this all ends with TBC walking out and us getting a shitty deal back i'm gonna have to bump so many of my old shitty posts and no-one wants that, not least me

What we hope the other clubs dont realise is that ryder does every facet of the game better than T-Bell - And Ryder is no star.
