If so, surely now is his time. Hughes is in appalling form, and as much as he's promising for the future, if we bring him in and he fails again it's be crippling for his confidence and could irreparably damage our great hope.

I would pick him, he has done it at test level before and doesn't look as shaky consistently as Hughes.

I'd go with Jaques as well. He's proved his mettle with a boxing day century and Hughes will need an age to iron out some of his flaws.

Selectors are as arbitrary as it gets so who knows.

He's still an Australian Citizen, though, right? If so, he should be eligible to play for Australia. You can get a British passport and still be an Australian citizen. It's probably moot, though, since he has retired from Shield cricket.
