yes he usually dominates hitouts not necessary to advantage. but what else does he do? when he goes forward he can't mark the ball. If he could kick us 2 goals a game resting up forward taking opposition sapping marks then he would be considered a dominant force.

Every single ruckman and coach, almost without exception, talks about negating Sandilands and trying to limit his influence, as opposed to beating him. The only other players in the competition who get that respect every week are Ablett and Pendlebury.

If umpires paid attention like they do to the gun mids he would be the player with the most free kicks for in the comp just about. Gets mauled no end in marking contests. Wouldn't trade him for too many ruckman going around at the moment though.

Sandi is now as a 30+ year old ruckmen, many others are retired by this age and has been extreamly valuable to Freo. Why didn't you post comments such as the above when Freo were playing finals last season? I might start a thread about how Pav is overated because he hasn't kicked 4+ goals a game this season.

wehavethepassion has always had great judgement and always believes what he reads in the paper.

I can remember having to vigorously defend (with a lot of help from masai ) the big fella in the early days against many attacks from our own. +

Good thing We didn't trade or delist him I reckon. :)

For those that didn't realize, this was an article in the Sunday times - complete and utter dribble...

This article just proves the issue we face as supporters, that being the media need to 'invent' articles with such regularity we are force fed horse sh$t so often. This article is living proof of an un thoughtout statement that is controversial enough to be published into an article. Has no merit, there is no evidence nor argument to back it up and it isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Sandi would be snapped up by 17 of the other clubs if he was available, has been and still is a champion of our game.
Possibly leading the brownlow right now too - so yeh, he's absolutely sh$t

There's probably around 15 players in the AFL who off of their own back can change the course of a game. Ablett, Pendlebury, Dangerfield, N. Riewoldt when playing at CHF. Sandilands is one of these players. I'm not sure you really need to say much more but apart from that he's been injured or recovering for a long time and one bad game working with a different midfield combination lacking quality after 2 probable 3 vote games hardly makes you a crab. I assume Leigh Mathews is taking up the role of Daily Mail sports section clickbait troll where everyone has a massive flame in the comments section, but rest assured that anyone involved in a game as a spectator, coach or player that Sandi has completely dominated never forgets it.

Nope. Not overrated

He does his job - not his fault Barlow & Fyfe missed, leaving Mundy as the main midfielder to tap to. Whoever stepped in in their place was going to struggle, no amount of match-sims and midfield practices at training were going to prepare them for playing in our midfield - least of all when were facing the reigning premiers on their home turf.

FWIW I thought Sandilands did alright against the Hawks. He, like the rest of the team, really turned it up a notch in the second half and tried to at least make something of the game (was lost at this stage, anyway) - but at least we now have some positives to build on for next week :thumbsu:

Mathews clarified his statements yesterday in the Carlton an Essendon game. He basically doesn't rate any tap Ruckman who doesn't kill it around the ground too as he thinks tap work isn't important these days. Therefore, he said, Sandi is the most over-rated Ruckman because everyone talks about his tap work and little else.

So regardless of his possessions and usefulness around the ground Matthews starts off from a premise that IF TRUE would indeed make Sandi over rated. However there are other tap Ruckmen who do far less around the ground who the media have a love affair for and are apparently going to be offered $1 Million per annum that should be considered even more over rated given how little they do around the ground.
