Is Sean Charles finished?

Word around the trpas this afternoon is that Sean Charles has quit StKilda. The 'experts' were saying this was his last chance, and his reasons for leaving were that he couldn't keep up with the demands put on him. Would a couple of years do the trick or is he forever doomed to be in the too hard basket for coaches?

Good point Samuels.

Although listening to Brian Waldron the other day, he said Blighty has no hesitation in selecting players for the AFL side directly from the Springvale reserves if there form is good enough.

Apparently he selected Andrew Eccles and Kane Johnson directly from the Norwood/Glenelg reserves sides a few years.

Brett Knowles has gone from Springvale reserves to Springvale seniors to St Kilda in consecutive weeks I think. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

As for Sean Charles, it is a shame. However it did seem as if his heart just wasn't in it and if that is the case, we will better off having a couple of places free on our list as incentive for our rookies.

You've got to wonder though if the association with Springvale is working, if these guys are playing 2nds football.

It is not across the board that our reserves play in their 2nds, some play in the firsts

Do you know the reasons why it happened with Knowles and others?

Hit the Boundary Saints,

I'm not sure if it is the case but a few people on the saints fan forum seem to think that there is a rule in place that no more than 8 listed St Kilda players can be in the Springvale senior side.

If that is true, I would be most unhappy.

However I have no problem with the Springvale match committee choosing their best 22 players each week. If they don't consider one of our players to be in good enough form at the time, I honestly don't mind seeing them play in the reserves.

In regards to why Knowles and others have played in the reserves, I can only speculate. Maybe it was because of the supposed 8 player rule or maybe the match committee at Springvale thought their own players were just playing better football than the saints listed players.

Having watched them play a few times already, there are some damn good players in the lineup and it comes as no surprise that the scorpions are unbeaten after 5 rounds.

I guess we both won't know how successful/unsuccessful the alliance will end up for a long while.

I think last year the combined sides like St.Kilda-Springvale, Sydney-Port Melb, etc were restricted to six AFL-listed players. Not sure if it's the same this year.

If that's the case Darky I don't think it is fair at all.

I have no problem if our VFL affiliate side don't pick our players on merit, but for them to be forced to only select 6 or 8 AFL listed places is not good enough.

But back to Sean Charles, I'm kinda glad he'll be remembered as a Dees player. Although part of me wanted him to kick on at first Carlton then St.Kilda. I'm a big fan of "Storma" although I really only saw him play 10 good games. I'm not doubting that his commitment wasn't a 100% but he had a lot of bad luck with injury. Firstly his chronic wrist injury at Melbourne (The bone was practically disintergrating apparently) then that horrible broken leg in his only game for Carlton.

He'll be best remembered for kicking 5 2nd half goals to guide us to victory in his debut match vs North at the G in 92. As well as his stunning display in the 94 Qualifying Final vs Carlton.

Its a pity Sean could not dedicate himself to the vigors of afl footy.
His heart did not seem to be in it.
Injuries put a halt to his career at Melbourne and after that, he just could not rekindle his career.

He had a some really great games with the Dees.
