even more shocking is if you happen to catch a 2000s game and hear dwayne he was excellent, he sounds like a normal man calling a football game - what happened?!

We can hang s**t on Dwayne, but 80% of the game callers (not special comments) on TV and radio are garbage callers. I’d argue the only decent ones are:

- Gerard Whateley
- Tim Lane
- Jason Morrison
- Dennis Commetti

That’s about it. The rest either don’t call the play accurately, or spend too much of their time waffling on with catchphrases or whatever.

Like its one thing to be on Sunday night but its another thing to have the most robotic commentator ever commentating it...

Why are WA fans shafted with him??? We used to have BT for god sakes what a contrast.

And also you have Johnathan Brown (dunno if hes still there) no personality, no colour just a robot

Maybe if you replace commentators it would make sunday games more better and bring in more viewers.

This could be the FIRESTARTER

Originally called on ABC radio and was actually really good. Called the game straight but added a few Commetti like gems for good measure. One of my favs was near the end of the 1998 Prelim when Tony Libertore was being dragged after failing miserably in his job of tagging Andrew McLeod:

“ Terry Wallace has decided to channel Mick Jagger here, with a message of Hey you, get off McLeod” Brilliant stuff.

Once Russell made the shift over to 3AW it was clear he felt ( or was told ) that ABC style sports broadcasting was “ Not what we do here “. Dwayne got quickly with the program and rebuilt his brand into the insufferable ego driven pain in the ass he is now.
