Hi All,

I love reading WAFL updates on our future and keeping keen eye on Tanner Smith, is it me or he definitely has improved in last 2-3 weeks.

All the reviews I read he is aggressive and creative and beating his man. Last 3 weeks has not lost a battle?

Could it be Tanner is Lukes replacement and Pearce Alex kind is Jono's replacement?

WAFL watchers?

Source from within (trust me on this one) has suggested that the club are happy with his development over this season, especially over the past month or two. Tanner is apparently following instructions well and is improving every week in terms of the expectations on him and what they want him to achieve in each game. I don't think Tanner is anywhere near as creative as Luke - I think 7-8 possessions, a few good spoils, 3-4 defensive 50 marks, and restricting his opponent to two goals would be considered a very good day at the office for Tanner. Maybe Tanner's more the Zac Dawson up and comer?

Tanner early in the season was well below par for an AFL listed player and I was very must on the list of people that saw him as canon fodder .
He was a ball watcher and lacked confidence to attack the ball or the contest however over the last few games he has been very good and has improved in a number of areas . The more he has played he has gained confidence in his roll off the HBF .
He will never be as good as Johnson ,Ibbo or Mcpharlin .He is serviceable . With more games with Peel we will get a better idea of his worth . He has a long way to go before he is AFL quality but he is worth keeping an eye on at this stage .
With Silvagni and Dawson being available soon he will slip back in selection for the league team ,its how he responds to that challenge that will decide his fate .

i thought tanner was really impressive as a shut down player in the nab preseason games and then lost confidence when the wafl season started

He has certainly improved in recent times. The thing he has which we need is a big body - listed at 194 and 83 but looks heavier than that to me.

Would not write him off.

It was interesting that he got a rookie upgrade onto the main list but we haven't actually selected him to play. That alone is unusual - I can only think that it's a reward for good performance over the year.

I think it's to do with the fact that if McPharlin or Pearce got injured then he was next in line.

Yeah, but generally you wouldn't upgrade until just before you select them in the team, because there's no point (you can do it anytime you like if the spot is available).

I think our young guys are all progressing very well including all the rookies, Ballard, Moller, Smith, Vandeleur, Hurley & Hughues though his disposal at times is inconsistent.
