Just on Zuthrie, how important is it now for Scarlo to come clean on this one, has continually backed him in over THURLOW, Thurlow's a half back flanker every day of the week that's why they Drafted him, just come off 43 possessions and couldn't get a look in.
Does Scarlett have the last say?

Are Richmond in our heads? First the Menz omission from last years finals now this from yesterday :

> Parsons for Buzza - stupid - Tiges were playing a debutant tall defender who we didn't exploit , Rance ran loose and Vlastun marked everything as we had zero tall presence apart from Hawk. Laughable to see Macca and Fog trying to take a pack mark a few times. Buzza has a presence in the air and would have given a decisive ruck advantage over Grigg - FFS Menegola and Tom rucking was crazy as when Tom was there we had short people up forward and Menegola had NFI ( understandable)
> Zuthrie - a 191cm 89kg Thurlow was sitting 20M from me in the stands coming off a 43 disposal game off half back. Zuthrie tried hard but the kid lacks confidence which won't have been helped by losing 3 or 4 crucial 1 on 1's in the last 1/4
> Gregson - not up to it despite kicking a bag in a VFL thumping

Good sign was a lot of quality Cats looking on from the stand .............MC please take note :)

club doesnt rate mostly outside players (varcoe, lang, thurlow)

thurlow probably isnt the answer to having a great defender with great disposal (mackie/j hunt) but he is the best we have got so he should be played

zuthrie did well last year but he doesn't have any weapons he is just an undersized defender with no offensive game

we clearly have issues moving the ball from defence in high pressure games so it makes sense to play a guy who can kick 60m and hit targets
Damn Cynical, I actually agree!

It would seem the club don't rate the exact type of player we lack at present.

Colour me confused.

I agree that Zuthrie was the wrong selection on a day that basically demanded heavy bodies - he's good enough as a skillset, but still too small at AFL level to work out in a game like that. Thurlow was in form, and the obvious selection.

Beyond that, though, I don't agree - I think that the selections of McCarthy, Parsons, Gregson and Fogarty were defensible given the alternatives available. McCarthy and Fogarty are AFL-standard players IMO, Gregson and Parsons aren't yet - but the VFL forward line cupboard is pretty dry. We don't have a seasoned small forward waiting in the wings, or even playing up the ground - so while Horlin-Smith could have come in from the VFL, that doesn't solve the question of who plays forward.

At a pinch, I'd maybe have brought in Horlin-Smith for Gregson, and moved Kelly forward - though that is a long bow.

Not playing Buzza in the wet was completely the right move IMO. The defensive pressure was pretty good - God knows we got a lot of repeat inside fifties - and it wasn't our forwards' fault that we kept trying to stick it in on Vlastuin's head. Playing more talls would have just been so daft - we really needed a Paul Chapman type, small and squat - we just don't have one.
